CADEN
At the dining table, it was quite intense. The room was dull, and the silence was stinging every part of me that I began to wonder if there were any means I could get out of here.
"Kane is out," and boom, Dad let out.
He knows nothing!
"I have no idea."
"Well, my people don't have his exact whereabouts for now, but I am sure he wouldn't come anywhere closer to us," he announces from his position.
Not having the strength to oppose and mostly because I knew he was left behind, I decided to give him the satisfaction he needed.
Agreement.
"You must be correct."
"I always am," he retorted, prideful.
It was embarrassing for a parent.
"Don't be so proud, though," I scoffed.
Suddenly, he wore a tough feature, shooting a dagger glare at me.
His hand slams the table loudly as he grumbled: "Can you repeat that one in my face?"
Panicked, Mad begins just as she grabs my hand under the table: "Dad..." But Martha reappears again. This time fully dressed in pajamas too.
Yes, I know. She wouldn't always be there to save my ass from him.
"I am now fully showered. Can we dig into the food?" She joked, right before she began serving the table. "And you can tell us how you're getting along, if the house helps with your relationship, and what's your highlight living in west coast?" she's so excited but I felt Mad stiffen.
I wonder where this is going but the nature in me can't be restrained, I feel like pouring out how good these recent days have been since after my home arrest.
Before I can speak Mad answers, "We are good." a bit defensive.
Martha pauses and eyed us. "Really? I expect more details."
"Actaully we like to argue and fight, a lot. We had a lot going on a while ago, so we couldn't get to do all those but, but we came around and picked up where we left off." I blurted, repressing a chuckle, feeling Mad panic eyed drilling my side profile. She kick my leg.
"My God, I was hoping living together will help." Martha disappointedly remark, looking concerned.
"No, it work out. We settled our differences." Mad rushed out.
"But you keep fighting." Martha points out, while Mad bring a glass of water to her lips. "You guys are in college now. Please find a way to make up."
"Oh Martha, it's best this way. Sometimes you just have to fight to get things out." I assured her, until the girl next to me choke on her water.
"Are you okay?" I reach over to rub her back but Dad has since jumped out of his seat and shoved my hand away, claiming the position and shooting me a dagger glare. I immediately parted our hands that were laced under the table before he could catch that.
"It's okay, it's okay. I got you." he kept saying, and Martha, seeing she don't have to do anything, just watched from across the table, but her eyes were on me instead, they seem a bit cautious and searching. I lower my head and seat back against the backboard.
"I'm fine, dad. You can seat." Mad says next to me and I reclaim her hand, rubbing her skin to comfort her.
Midway through the dinner that Martha claimed Dad had helped cook.
