Chapter Seven
Enjoy :)
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘˗ˏˋ ˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ ˎˊ˗∘∙⊱⋅•⋅Next morning, during Functions class, Rebecca invited me to sit in the desk beside her.
I was shocked to say the least. Rebecca and I never really had interactions that lasted over one minute and they were usually out of diplomacy.
Either way I already knew I couldn't say no. Refusing an invitation from Rebecca would be like refusing an invite from the Queen of England. Self-destruction.
So I grabbed my things and make my way over to the seat that is now unoccupied because of Xavier's leaving. It feels extremely wrong to sit there and I really don't want to but I sit, regardless and try as hard as possible to appear happy in the presence of people I would much rather avoid.
"Hi Isa." Comes from behind me.
Adrianna sits there looking spectacular as always with her hair in full, defined waves and her uniform crisp and flattering.
She still has that icy stare in her eyes that's so similar to her brothers and from the stiffness of her lips it's like she was forced to say hi to me, most likely by Rebecca. I offer a polite smile before turning around to where Rebecca is sitting beside me.
"So," Rebecca says. "I was very surprised to see you at the house yesterday."
It takes me a moment to backtrack and realise that she is talking about Clyde's house. I suddenly feel nervous even though there's no need to.
"Yeah, I was. I saw you by the pool. You're a great swimmer by the way." I tell her.
"Thanks, Isa." Rebecca smiles pleasantly at my compliment then leans forward. " You and Clyde were doing the, um, tutoring thing again right?"
"Right." I say, and my hands feel too idle so I reach for a strand of my hair and twirl it around my finger.
Rebecca leans back into her chair and places a hand over her chest. "You know, Isa. You're honestly such a sweetheart. I find it so cute how you're helping Clyde with his math. Especially because he's been struggling with it for a while now. I want to specially thank you."
What was she, his mother? It takes everything in me to keep the smile on my face nice and wide and to force out a, "Hahahahaha, no problem."
Just then, there's loud ferocious laughter near the doors entrance, the volume level of the classroom immediately goes up and I know exactly who's entered. It was Xavier's lap dog who had almost run me over with his car that day. Richard.
"Well what do we have here." Richard drawls, approaching me slowly until he's reached a stand over my desk. I don't even spare him a look just to irritate him and I know I've succeeded by the sharp, impatient sound he makes with his teeth. "Okay, what is she doing here?"
"Don't be annoying Richard." Rebecca says crossing her arms, "I personally invited her over today. "
"Interesting." Richard says just as he sits down. "How's your leg doing by the way, new girl?"
Rebecca looks from me to Richard. "Her leg?"
"Yeah. She was walking in the middle of the road this one time so I almost ran her over with my car. It was tragic."
There is a loud snort from behind me that Adrianna doesn't even bother trying to hide and I feel my face burn with anger. I won't even try to fix the narrative, because I know that's exactly what Richard wants. For me to be bothered.
