About two weeks ago I was innocent, defenceless and completely unaware of the evil nature of a High-school party in Upper East Manhattan.
Now, as I push through the doors of Xavier Levin's mansion, the vibrations of bass booming from loud speakers, felt through the soles of my feet and the cool dimness of orange lights shimmering around crystal chandeliers, swarming my vision, something is different. I am prepared.
Because unlike last time I have an objective, and a plan. And I would not be leaving this party empty handed.
As I slink through crowds across the ground floor of the mansion, I can't lie and say Xavier hasn't put together a nice party. The house has a completely different vibe from when I had visited it last time with dimmed lights that create a calm, chilled, lazy atmosphere and the addition of furniture and other adornings to accompany his guests.
There's a bar in the corner that's distributing concerning amounts of alcohol for a senior, high school party and the chefs seem to be working overtime with the amounts of drinks and food decorating the dining rooms.
The pool is located on the other end of the mansion and is thankfully, less populated than other areas. Rosie is laying on a tanning bed beside the water just as she'd told me over the phone. A frilly yellow dress sports her model-like figure and her hair is curly in waves around her.
"Isa!" Rosie exclaims sitting up and extending her arms when she sees me. "You're finally here."
"I sure am." I say reaching in for the hug. Rosie gives me a quick introduction to some of her other friends who seem nice enough and then pulls me in to sit beside her on the tanning bed.
It's about twenty minutes of laying and chatting around like this when I see him for the first time tonight. Rosie is still talking to me when it happens completely oblivious to the way my heart picks with speed or the way my body breaks out into a sweat.
Xavier is stalking over to the pool, all the way on the other side of where I'm sitting, the tattooed guy named Kai following close behind him. Xavier's covered head to toe in black with a tight fitted shirt that provides a clear view of strong muscular arms and pants that hang low around his hips.
There's a glint of silver around his neck that catches my eye as he stands over the pool talking down at Drew and a few others who swim closer to speak to him.
It was perfect like this. Xavier was the host of his party; He would be thoroughly occupied all night. A perfect opportunity for me to strike.
"Rosie." I say sitting up from the chair to which the girl turns her head from her friend to stare at me questioningly. "I have to use the bathroom. I'll be back."
"Sure!"
I rise from my seat, the adrenaline already pumping through my veins. I make the mistake however, of glancing back to where Xavier is still standing over the pool. My blood runs cold when his gaze is directly on me, tracking my movement. Even from the other side of the room I can feel the weight of his eyes on me, following me even as I slip inside.
With a victorious smile on my face I advance to phase two of my master plan. Xavier's room.
I remember it just like the last time I was here. Walk up the stairs, then down the hallway, past the art gallery room, cut to the left.
