Mutasim P.O.V

I was woken up by a panicked scream, making me jump up to my feet and pull my sword out. My eyes quickly scanned the area around me only to see that it was a false alarm. Fishlegs just screamed as he woke up, no doubt from a bad nightmare.

Fishlegs: Oh Thor... It was just a dream... Phew...

I shook my head slightly and sheathed my blade. It was still night and the fire was barely lit. I was tempted to ignite the fire a little more, but I noticed something different. We were missing someone. Doing a quick headcount, I realised Astrid was gone.

But really worried me was that she had left her axe here. She never goes anywhere without her axe from what I recall. Picking it up, I took a closer look and caught a slight drip of red on the edge. I rubbed a finger over the red and licked it. The taste confirmed my suspicion about this being blood, which meant she was in trouble.

???: Then we should take to the skies and search for her.

Turning around, I saw my partner had woken up.

Mutasim: "Yeah. We'll search the island first and then we'll check the surrounding waters."

Dragon: Then let us depart.

I climbed onto her back and we immediately flew upwards until we could see the entire village. As soon as we could see the entire village, my dragon looked at the ocean, growling.

Dragon: There! On the water!

I looked at where she was looking and I saw a boat with no symbol on the sail. Either that boat belonged to a merchant or an unknown party. But the odds of there being a merchant were low so I was leaning more towards it being a unknown group. We flew towards the boat, hoping that we'd find Astrid. As soon as we got close, my eyes widened when I recognised the white and dirtied armour on the people riding the boat. They were with the Empire!

Dragon: It would appear we are not the only ones to find ourselves in this world.

Mutasim: "Hang back and let me take care of these stray dogs. If Astrid is down there, we might risk drowning her along with the boat."

Dragon: Agreed.

I jumped off her back and landed on the boat, drawing my blade out. The soldiers in front of me all had the same crimson eyes the standard Empire troops had. I always wondered what the deal with the red eyes was. What was so significant about them?

I cast my thoughts aside and steeled myself for combat. The soldiers rushed at me in a blind rage and panic. Despite their near emotionless cries, I could see the terror in their eyes. They knew who I was and what I was capable of. Yet they still charged to their deaths. Fools...

I swung my blade in a horizontal motion, cleaving many of them in two. Blood flew through the air along with dismembered body parts. The sensation of hearing their final cries was music to my ears. I quickly disposed of the rest of the soldiers, carving through them like paper. By the end of the massacre, the boat was painted red with blood.

Dragon: Quickly. Below the deck.

I nodded and jumped down into the interior of the boat. Upon doing so, I found Astrid! Except... She was on her knees and her arms were chained to a wall. One of the soldiers held a bowl of something up to her lips, but I couldn't tell what. Regardless of what it was, I realised I was too late to stop her from consuming whatever that was.

Soldier: You are one with The Watchers.

The soldier spoke with absolutely no tone, no emotion. Astrid coughed up some red liquid and when she opened her eyes... She had changed.
