Charles and Sophia went to his friend's residence on the eve of the party. Everything was wonderful. Sophia was pleased by the variety and quality of the foods she saw.

The reception hall was filled with many visitors. Wines were set out on the table, and anybody just helped themselves to it. Charles was sipping some wine while admiring Sophia's lovely face.

At this time, one of Charles's old friends, who was also a war veteran, came to them and smiled while looking at Sophia's beautiful face and said, "What a beautiful woman, would you do me the honor of dancing with me?"

When the man took the wine glass out of Sophia's hand and set it on a nearby table, she hesitated. But he took her hand anyway and led her to the center of the dance hall where they began to dance.

Everyone was in awe of Sophia's dancing skills since she expertly matched the music's tempo. She danced and glided with the ease of a serpent, a slim gorgeous body.

Laura came down from the upper floor and called Charles who was engrossed in admiring Sophia's attractive body and captivating dance.

When Charles noticed her, he set his wine glass on the table. Laura asked him to accompany her to a room upstairs to fix the zipper on her clothes. Charles went with her.

At this sight, Sophia became enraged that she unintentionally pushed the veteran aside, who was dancing with her, as she was on her way upstairs.

She lifted slightly the front part of her dress as she climbed the stairs, while the veteran, who was startled by her weird and unexpected move, stood alone in the hall.

Sophia momentarily stopped at the top floor and carefully listened for any voice. Upon hearing Laura's laughter, she moved cautiously to the direction of the room where Laura's laughter came from.

Through the half-open door, she saw Charles fixing Laura's zipper. Then, to her shock, she saw Charles taking out a tiny box from his pocket and opening it. Sophia was eager to see what was in it.

Charles took out a very beautiful ring that looked like a wedding ring and then asked Laura to put it on her finger. Laura immediately put it on her finger. Seeing the ring on Laura's hand, Charles smiled and said, "It's so beautiful." Laura admired it saying, "It's very elegant and beautiful." Then Laura took the ring off her hand and returned it to Charles.

Sophia mistook it for the wedding band of the two of them and thought Charles would propose marriage in front of his friends on that special and unforgettable night. She saw Laura put her arms around Charles's neck, kissing his cheek as she expressed her admiration for his noble decision.

At this sight, Sophia was furious and hurried to the restroom at the end of the hallway where she waited for Charles to exit the room.

Once Charles was gone, Sophia turned into a big black snake writhing in anger. She came out of the bathroom and went straight to where Laura was.

The corridor was quiet and there was no one upstairs. Charles had gone downstairs, but Laura was still sitting in the chair in front of the mirror, and redoing her makeup while humming a song.

Downstairs, music could be heard as guests danced and drank wine. Upstairs, one could hear their joyous laughter.

She has seen Laura as a rival ever since they first met in the restaurant. This would be the perfect opportunity to get rid of her. She took extra caution so Laura could not harm her.

Laura, who was sitting in front of the mirror, suddenly saw the shadow of a snake on the wall behind her. Terrified, she screamed and tried to escape, but the door was locked and there was no key on it.

When the snake tried to attack Laura, she was screaming for help. In a fit of panic, Laura thought of throwing herself out the window, but she realized that she could lose her own life because the apartment was on the tenth floor.

Laura had a pale face and protruding eyes from the fear of dying either by falling to the street or by snake bite. She realized that she was running out of time and might not survive. When she saw the broom by the wall, she quickly detached its metal handle which she used to keep the snake at bay.

The snake repeatedly attempted to attack her but Laura used the metal handle to prevent it from getting any closer.
