As per the Hindu / Sanatana Dharma Scriptures, the story of Lord Krishna has always been one of the most celebrated ones. In the North of India, believed to be his birth place and days spent as a child, he is celebrated with the most beautiful Radha Rani. In the South as well, Radha Rani is as important. But in South Indian Temples, the goddess that is worshipped as Lord Krishna's Consort is Goddess Rukmini, known as per our scriptures, as the Chief Queen of Krishna. Many stories tell that she was the most loved among the Queens of Krishna because she surrendered herself completely to the Lord.
Goddess Rukmini belonged to the Kingdom of Vidarbha, the daughter of King Bhishmaka and his Queen. The Queen is sometimes named Shuddhamati / Shashirekha. She has five older brothers, Rukmi, Rukmaratha, Rukmabahu, Rukmakeshi and Rukmamali.
Rukmini's love story with Krishna is an adventurous one. She has never seen him all her life and just mere hearing about him without knowing how he looks or how he behaves and if at all whether he likes her or not, she falls in love with him. She decides to get married to him, but against her will, her brother Rukmi wishes for her to get married to Prince Shishupala who happens to be an arch enemy of Krishna. Rukmini then writes a letter to Krishna, the letter, celebrated as the first-ever love-letter written in the History of Mankind by a woman to a man. The letter asks Krishna to kidnap her from the Devi Temple that she would pray at on the morning of her wedding. The letter moves Krishna and as she desires, he kidnaps her in the presence of her family and other kings. There is a fight that comes up, leading Krishna to shave off Rukmi's head as a punishment and he takes Rukmini to be married to him.
Now, this is the story as per our scriptures. Simple, dignified and elegant. My story will be a little bit of a contrast to this. In this, the emotions are more raw. The writing is entirely inspired by the various songs I have listened to, the various stories I have read, and purely based on my love for Krishna, Rukmini and Radha!
For people who absolutely love Radha Vs Rukmini debates, I am sorry, but this might not interest you as much!
Critisims, most welcome, but please make them a little polite? Your points will definitely be made note of!
