Night in the OBX was the best. All of the Kooks retreated back into their glorified dens and the rest of the residents slowed down. People would on their porches playing card games, or drink, or smoke. They would group together for smaller parties than the ones that were usually hosted on the beach.

The Pogues would sit down at the end of the docks, feet dangling in the water, playing games and just talking. That was Indi's favourite part of the day. Where she could just relax and take in the cool breeze and the soft chirping of the crickets all around her.

Indi thought she had only closed her eyes for five minutes but when she awoke she was consumed in darkness. There had been the beginning of a hurricane passing through the Outer Banks all day and so there was no sunset shining through her window.

"Yo, JB you here?" Indi called out to the seemingly empty house.

The lack of her brother's voice answered her question.

Indi made her way to the fridge to see what moldy ingredients she could slap together into something of a meal. There were three cans of beer, a bottle of Malibu and a rotten peach that was definitely home to a new colony of bacteria.

Letting out a sigh of frustration, Indi slammed the fridge shut only to find JJ standing behind it.

A scream escaped the brunette's mouth as she jumped backwards. "Fuck, JJ. What the hell is wrong with you!" Indi shouted at him as she let out a breath of relief that he wasn't a serial killer.

"I bring gifts," JJ told her, holding up a six pack and a jumbo pack of chips. Indi snatched the chips from his hand and slumped down onto the dusty couch that was ten years past its expiry date.

"Where's Kie? I thought she was here," JJ asked as his hand dove into the chip bag.

"No. Her parents wanted her home because of Agatha and wanted her away from us 'bad influence, good for nothing, stoner kids'," Indi recalled with a roll of her eyes.

JJ chuckled at her accurate impression of Kiara's mom. "Ah, she has always had a way with words. Did you know JB and Pope went to surf the surge today?"

Indi's hazel eyes widened and her eyebrows raised. "Those bastards! They only went without me because they knew I would crush them."

A snicker escaped JJ's mouth. "Yeah, sure."

"I would crush you any day of the week, Maybank," Indi challenged followed by a wiggle of her eyebrows.

"Whatever you say, Routledge."

An hour had passed before John B and Pope finally resurfaced looking soaked and very windswept. As predicted the two of them cracked open a beer before slumping down on the floor with JJ and Indi.

The two were in a very serious game of go fish. They each only had one more card to place down to complete their piles.

Indi had a great poker face. She was completely unreadable in any situation she chose to be unreadable in. JJ, on the other hand, was not. Indi knew that when he picked up the last card that it was the one she needed.

"Do you have the last king?" Indi asked with a huge smirk plastered on her face.

"Son of a bitch!" JJ exclaimed as he dramatically threw his cards to the floor.

Pope sympathetically patted the blonde boy on his back, as he gathered up all the cards to distribute to four players this time.

"Hey, guess what?" John B prompted to his sister. "DCS cancelled because of the storm. We're free for now."

A small smile filled with relief settled on Indi's face. The dread of DCS's visit had been looming over her all week. Thanks to Agatha, they had been given more time.

"Say what you want Pope but Kie's crystal manifesting worked once again."

Pope let out an exasperated sigh, preparing himself to give a logical reason as to why crystals cannot possibly change the future, and also preparing to be mocked by JJ.

"Indi, crystals don't work. It is absolutely impossible for a pink rock to change the future."

John B nodded his head in response, taking them by surprise. "He's right. It is impossible for pink rocks to change the future because pink quartz emits powers of love," he responded smugly.

"Not you too," Pope said as he slapped his hand into his face.

The hours of the evening passed on and the Pogues eventually all fell into a deep sleep. After having to put up with the snoring for countless years, Indi had somehow found a way to sleep through it all without stirring at all.

The early morning sun shone through the dusty blinds, one ray shining directly into Indi's eyes. She softly groaned after being woken up way earlier than she wanted to. Her eyes eventually focused just enough for her brain to realise that her face was less than two inches away from JJ's.

That was far too close than Indi would ever have wanted, yet she couldn't stop herself from observing him. The wisps of sun-bleached hair that fell over his eyebrows. The tiny little freckled dotted on the bridge of his nose. The...

"Yo, JJ, Ind'! You guys been outside yet?" John B called as he stepped out of his bedroom.

His voice was enough to snap Indi out of whatever JJ related trance she was in and jump off the sofa bed.

Her iron deficiency was not cut out for quick movements as black spots quickly clouded ninety percent of her vision, causing her to take a few steps back.

"I have polio, bro. I can't walk," JJ mumbled, barely awake.

"Do you even know what polio is?" Indi chuckled, knowing for a fact JJ had no clue what polio was.

"Nope."

John B and Indi stepped out onto the porch to see the damage that Agatha had caused. She hit hard. The backyard of the chateau was completely destroyed. A huge tree had almost fallen on the chicken coop- nearling dooming Reefa the Rooster to his death.

Their neighbours outdoor furniture had been scattered all along their yard and another tree had completely blocked access to their neighbours house and vice versa.

"Agatha did some work, huh?" JJ exclaimed after he'd suddenly appeared in the doorway sipping another beer.

Indi nodded her head as she kicked her way through leaves and branches to help John B rid the Pogue of more branches and leaves.

"What you thinkin'?" JJ questioned after he saw John B's expression as he looked out onto the water.

"I'm thinking that storm surge pushed all the crabs out on the marsh maze. All those drum are gonna chase the crab. Come on, think about it. This is God telling us to fish."

John B looked to JJ for approval at the same time JJ turned to Indi for her opinion.

"Let's go make some money!" Indi exclaimed with a large smirk on her face.
