"Why do you care if he lives?" the man asked me coldly.
I stared at him intently as I answered, "I love him."
The man laughed loudly and shook his head at me. "The sad thing is that he won't even know who you are after we fix everything."
"Of course Caiden will remember me! And what do you mean, 'after we fix everything?'" I snarled. The man just laughed even louder at that.
"Load them both in the carriage," he said smirking. Then he walked away.
His two men stepped forward and grabbed me roughly by my upper arms. I was dragged up into a standing position so they could tie my arms and legs up. When they finished with me, they flipped Caiden over and tied his arms and legs. The smaller man grabbed me and threw me over his shoulder while the bigger man grabbed Caiden.
They walked about a quarter of a mile before throwing Caiden and me into the back of a carriage. Caiden landed in a very awkward position, so I moved closer to him and nudged him until he was more comfortable. Of course, it was hard to be comfortable with our wrists and ankles bound so tightly.
The carriage started moving forward and after about an hour, Caiden still hadn't woken up. I was starting to getting worried and lonely. I started pushing Caiden and whispering his name in his ear. He slowly started to moan and twitch. His eyes fluttered for a few seconds before they finally squinted open and focused on me.
"Bel? Where are we? What's going on?" he groaned. His voice was kind of hoarse and his lips were chapped. I sighed and shook my head. I couldn't answer his questions.
"I don't know, Caiden. I wish I did, but I don't," I whispered slowly. I could feel my heart breaking even as I said the words. All I could think about was our families. What about them?
He sat up slowly and looked at me. He must have seen the broken expression in my eyes because he scooted closer to me and put his arms around me. Since his wrists were tied together, he had to put his arms over my head. But as soon he managed to get them over, I felt comforted. I snuggled into his chest and sighed. I was determined to get us free. One way, or another.
