Tigriss and I had caught sight of a deer. We stalked it, waiting for the perfect chance to attack. It stopped to graze, and me and Tigriss crouched in the bushes.
We'll jump out of the bushes and when it runs, I'll take its left side, and you take it's right. I'll count to three, then we'll attack its legs. I'll let you finish it off. Got it? Tigriss whispered to me.
I nodded feeling my instincts kick in. We lept out of the bushes. The deer ran and the chase was on. I swerved behind it so I could run along its right side. We let it run down its energy some, then Tigriss started counting.
One, two, and three! She yelled
I jumped toward its front legs, and out of the corner of my eye, saw Tigriss doing the same. I grabbed one of its legs in my mouth and jerked back to hear the unmistakable sound of its bone snapping. The deer went sprawling head first into the dirt. Both of its front legs had been broken, so it was going no where.
So, pop quiz. Tigriss said.
I groaned, and she laughed
One question! She said.
I sighed and she laughed again, shaking her head.
How do you kill an animal? She asked.
I thought for a moment, studying the deer.
"Umm, go for its heart?" I said not really knowing.
She shook her head and placed her tiny front paws on its neck.
You have to severe the vain in its neck. Then it will bleed out. This is where you should aim when biting. Go ahead and try. She said while nosing a little spot on its neck.
I stepped foreward and stared at its neck. Might as well get this over with, I thought. I opened my mouth and snapped it shut on its neck. My teeth went through like butter and I was surprised. It actually tasted good. The salty, tangy taste of the blood stayed in my mouth, even when I released. I grinned at Tigriss.
"Bon appetit," I said.
And with that we dug in.
After we could eat as much as we could, we left what was left of the deer for other animals to eat. We talked alot, and as we were talking, I realized that Tigriss had gotten bigger in the past few days. She had grown longer and her voice wasnt as childish as it used to be. She was growing up. And when Tigers grow up, they would find a mate. It made me sad, knowing that one day, Tigriss was going to leave. Then I would be alone.
Tigriss continued to talk, never realizing that I was upset. It was a good thing, because then she would have questioned me. And I would've had to answer. We finally arrived back at our temperary camp. Tigriss curled up on the rock and yawned.
Night Bina. You did good today. She said sleepily.
"Good-night Tigriss. I love you," I said.
She never heard me though. She was already fast asleep.
