I walked slowly so I wouldn't raise suspicions. I looked around the market and saw a meat vendor. He had large birds and plump squirrels. My mouth watered and I tried to ignore the pain in my stomach. I pulled my cloak hood tighter around my face and pretended to look at the meat. I had my eyes on a rather large squirrel. When the vendor turned and nobody was wartching, I grabbed the squirrel. But it slipped when I tried to put it in my cloak.

"Theif!" The vendor yelled as he noticed me struggling to hide the squirrel.

I gasped and started to ran. I still had the squirrel in my hand. I heard growls and yells behind me. I stopped running and twisted around to look. Tigriss was snarling and biting at the people's legs as they tried to catch me. Then I felt hands on my shoulders. I slowly turned to see a gaurd smirking at me. I heard a yelp behind me and I knew that Tigriss had been caught also.

"Give me the squirrel," The gaurd said.

I handed him the squirrel and watched the other two gaurds put Tigriss in a cage.

"Now take off your cloak," He said.

I quickly shook my head. I did not want to be seen and be called a freak. That is something that I couldn't tolerate.

"Now!" The gaurd barked.

I slowly let my cloak fall off of my shoulders. I heard gasps and whispers and I could feel the eyes on me. In Tiger Village, most people were tanned and had dark hair. Me, being albino, was opposite of this. Not even the people of Bear Village were as pale as me.

"Freak," The gaurd hissed as he snapped the cuffs on my wrists.

I felt tears sting my eyes so I stared at the ground. I could hear Tigriss in the cage, hissing and growling. They led me away. As we were leaving, I looked up and saw my parents.

"Father, Mother!" I called, hoping that they would help me.

"Are your parents here?" The guard asked.

I nodded and pointed toward my parents. The guard called them forward.

"Do you wish to take your daughter home and punish her?" The guard asked them.

My parents looked at me. They looked at me like I was a piece of garbage that needed to be discarded. I knew they didn't like me, but I didn't want to go to jail. My father raised his hand and slammed it against my face. I was knocked hard to the ground. I could feel the warm, red blood dripping from my nose. I looked at him. His dark brown eyes smoldered into mine, burning through my heart until I had to look away.

"Take her away. Good-Bye Albina. You were never a daughter of mine," My mother said, venom in her voice.

I choked back a sob. They didn't care. I thought maybe . . . just maybe . . . that they cared enough to save me. But they didn't. I was led away to the dungeons.
