Chapter Eleven

"They said angels were supposed to come from the sky, that means I'm lucky, cause one fell for me."

The first person Sammy saw making his way back to Nathan’s house was Katrina. Covered in dust and looking so out of it, he was worried. She was waiting on Nathan’s front porch, a peculiar sight because she seemed to hate him, but Sammy thought nothing of it.

When Katrina caught sight of Nathan, Sammy or no Sammy, she went ballistic, “You asshole!” She screeched, sashaying off of his porch and going the strike him.

He caught her arm in midair, “What?”

She looked at him blankly, “Don’t tell me you thought I’d forget what you just did to me, not even three hours ago.”

“I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about.” And he truly didn’t. Usually, when he knocked victims unconscious, they’d get a spasm of amnesia and forget about the past events. Katrina seemed to remember, “Anyways, I found him for you.”

She actually spared Sammy a short glance, before flaring back to Nathan, “You…you…digga!”

Sammy laughed, oblivious to the tension, “Digga?”

Nathan chuckled quietly along with him, “It means dumbass, roughly.”

            “Yeah,” Katrina huffed, “No shit.”

Sammy gasped, “Katrina – you swear?”

“What was your first clue?” Sammy looked hurt by that, and she wanted to comfort him, but her anger overshadowed everything.

Nathan smiled reassuringly, “Katrina, can I please talk to you alone for a moment?”

            “No.”

            “I beg your pardon?”

“I said no. Are you deaf?”

Nathan sent her an expressive glare, “I’ve asked nicely. Don’t make me ask twice.”

            “Or what?” She challenged.

            “Or, well, you know.”

Sammy was still oblivious, but a cold chill ran up his spine, “Um, I’ll wait inside for you guys to – ”

Katrina cut him off, very rudely, “Does Sammy know what kind of monster you really are?”

Nathan stole a look at Sammy’s wary and assuming face, “Why, no he doesn’t. But I doubt that you even do.” He could read her mind, and images flashed before him. She had gone through his things, “Are you kidding me? That’s an invasion of privacy!”

She scoffed, “What do you care? Oh, I forgot. You don’t. Because you’re a…”

His temper was growing impatient, “Sammy, go inside, now.” He demanded.

“Why should he? You aren’t his boss.” An evil glint escaladed in her eyes.

Sammy caught on, “Er, no Katrina. I need to use the bathroom anyways. I’ll let you two settle this.”
