(Leora's POV)

"Greetings, Master Ollie."
"Hello Drew. Thanks for coming on short notice."
"Anytime."
Drew faced me.
"It's also good to see you this evening, Miss Leora."
"Same to you, Drew."
"I hate to dash off, but I need to make a lot of phone calls from now until further notice," Ollie quickly apologized to us both. He soon turned towards me and said, "If I don't come out in time for dinner, I'll see you later in our room."
With that, he gave me a quick kiss.
"See you later tonight," I smiled at him.
I watched Ollie turn away to go into his home office, and I felt pride swelling from within me. He was going to be a great husband, and I already knew he was a good father to Anita.
"Seeing you two really brings me back..." Drew said, then hummed happily.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"The late Mr. and Mrs. Ramses were similar to you both" he explained, "It's nice to see."
"Oh," I couldn't help but blush.
"Master Ollie has changed quite a bit since you two have met."
"I think so too," I agreed, "It was weird how we first met, but I wouldn't change anything."
"While we're on the subject, there's something I must talk to you about."
"Yes?"
Drew paused for a moment.
"You don't seem to be the type to hurt Master Ollie...but I'm afraid he's been hurt deeply in the past by someone else. There was...someone he was seeing in secret. Someone he shouldn't have been. But it wasn't my place to step in."
"I know exactly who you are talking about," I said, "And believe me, we both don't like her. And I have never even met her."
"She's a beautiful woman," Drew admitted, "But she is not a good person. I met her once or twice, and I didn't like her in the slightest. I voiced my disapproval of her when she started dating the late Master Ramses."
"Ollie doesn't know that you know about his first love," I said, "He thought he had kept it a secret."
"Well," he scoffed, "He shouldn't underestimate me. There's a lot that I know."
"Right...I could only imagine."
"Well now that I know how you feel about his ex-partner...this greatly reassures me."
"I'm glad. If you ever want to know anything else, just ask me. I'm an open book."
"Would you like some tea?" he asked, "I'm sorry for not offering sooner."
"Sure. That would be great. You don't have to apologize; you just got here and you're already starting to cook."
"I was thinking about inviting Miss Laura over for dinner also. Do you think Master Ollie would approve?"
"I don't know, but I would like to invite her over myself."
"Well, that makes two of us," Drew replied, his ears twitching slightly. "I'll be making the tea and returning shortly."
While Drew started making the tea, I went on my phone for a little while. I couldn't help but overhear his conversation.
"Hello Miss Laura. Of course I knew about the announcement. You hadn't heard about the news? Yes. Yes. It was exactly why Master Ollie made that decision."
He paused for a few moments, listening to Laura.
"Well, Master Ollie is likely going to be up late into the night. You could still come over to visit for dinner. Maybe another time? Very well. I will hold you to that. I will let them both know. Alright. Good night."
With that, he got off the phone and finished preparing the tea.
He elegantly brought over the hot beverages on a tray with cream and sugar on the side.
"Do you like your tea sweet, Miss Leora?"
"I don't mind a little bit of sweet," I replied.

(Ollie's POV)

I am exhausted.
But it was worth it. Now I would be left alone for a good while. I promised to return to being low-key in the public eye and to travel carefully to the Union HQ.
There was one more phone call I had to make. It was to the CEO, my oldest Uncle.
It took a few rings, but he finally answered.
"Hello Ollie. You've caused quite the stir, haven't you?"
"It's all bee sorted out. I've called up my Uncles and our shareholders personally."
"I hope you're not expecting another loan. I'm not able to furnish your fiance's lifestyle."
"No Uncle. I've been earning a good keep with the Esper Union. I've been slowly rebuilding wealth. And Leora isn't like that."
He sighed.
"Shadow Creed may start to target us again because of your affiliation with the Union. Please be on the lookout for you and that adopted girl of yours."
"Her name is Anita," I reminded him, "I know Shadow Creed may start back up again, but I'm prepared. I'll protect our family with all that I've got."
"Like you did when you singlehandedly released confidential research to the same enemy?"
I sighed.
"I deserve that."
"Your father could have disowned you when he found out. But he foolishly trusted you and that leech of woman of his."
I need to stop this now.
"The past is the past. I have learned my lesson. I would rather the research be destroyed than to have it compromised again. Which is why I set up the securities developed to do just that if there is access from anyone but who has gained specific authorization. And we developed the specific protocols we have in place-"
"Talk is cheap, Ollie. You know this."
I had to change my approach.
"You will see with my actions then."
"Your actions have been incredibly questionable, and that's me being polite."
What did my Uncle want from me?
"I didn't call you to ask for anything or start an argument. I just wanted to speak with you over the recent media leak."
"Don't run off and go on solo revenge missions. You're the sole heir to the Ramses family. Even if you're just a chairman of the board right now, you are still viewed as the leader of this family and organization."
"I know. I understand my responsibility. I will continue to support you and vice versa."
"Anything you hear about Shadow Creed, you inform me of it right away. We will relocate our laboratories if needed."
"For now, I need to continue to avenge my Father," I said, "And we need to defeat Shadow Creed once and for all. I trust that you will continue to run our restructured laboratories in my absence."
"Yes. Only for the sake of my brother. You, dear Ollie, still have a lot of growing up to do."
"Don't be so condescending you have no idea what this past year has been like for me!"
"Oh. Have you been brushing up on your vocabulary? Me? Condescending? Don't make me laugh. All I have to do is make one phone call and your ties to the Ramses Laboratories are done!"
"Well, if you choose to do that. Then do so."
With that, I ended the call.
(To be honest, to be relieved of my duty as chairman would be a huge relief. I never wanted this. I only took the responsibilities on because it was my duty and part of my father's written will.)
I decided to have a shot of liquor for the first time in a while. I needed to calm my nerves.
I took out the green bottle and poured some into a small martini glass. I drank the alcohol as quickly as I could and I coughed from the intensity. I don't know how my father used to drink this stuff. But when I started to feel slightly soothed, I soon remembered the few benefits...I quickly put away the bottle, keeping it aside for another time.
I decided to go join Leora and Drew for dinner. It was late, but I wanted some food....
