It was raining again.

I was hesitant to go out though, you know why. As the sky was cast into a deep purple by a bolt of lightning, I had the instant urge to go relieve my tensions by walking through the rain, like I always do.

I scanned the street from my loft, there was no trace of anything but the puddles. I started to grab my hoodie, but hesitated again.

What if I needed to protect myself from him?

I looked toward the kitchen. I'd bring a knife. I quickly sifted through the drawer and found a small knife.

I was out the door within the next few minutes, white-knuckling the knife in my hoodie pocket. I felt the stress start to roll of me just as the water was running through my hair.

My heart skipped a beat as I approached the spot he was standing in the other day.

He wasn't there.

I sighed in relief and let go of the knife, continuing to walk down the street more relaxed.

I was walking past the entrance of an alley when someone stepped out of the shadows.

"Waiting for someone?" A gravelly voice said. It didn't belong to the man from the other day. This man's voice put me more on edge.

I took out the knife and shakily said, "Look. Maybe if you just turn around and walk away, you won't have any problems."

"I don't think I'm the one with the problems, little lady."

He started to walk towards me and then pounced, taking me to the concrete. The knife fell just out of reach. I stretched for it, but he kicked it away and brought his worn-out boot down on my wrist. I heard a sickening crunch and white-hot pain shot through my nerves.

I screamed but was cut off when his hand clamped over my mouth. Tears and rain were running down my face.

"Get the fuck away from her!"

The next few minutes seemed to last for hours. A tattooed arm streaked its fist right into my attacker's face. He fell to the side and, of course, landed on my fucking wrist.

I shrieked sharply and was picked up before blacking out.
