CHAPTER FOURA Couple of Days Later
Makayla was setting up the cameras and lighting for Dougie's studio session. She was the first to arrive and knew that she'd have to face Kay soon. He's never missed any of Dougie's sessions so he was sure to be at this one too.
She still hadn't talked to Kay or seen him in person since realizing she had romantic feelings for him. She was no longer actively trying to avoid him anymore but she wasn't itching to be around him either. Her new game plan was to just play it cool and try to minimize their interactions when she could to avoid raising suspicion.
"Y'all look where I'm at! My man brought me to the studio with him!" A shrill female voice echoed from the hallway, breaking Kayla's focus.
"Who the fuck is that?" Makayla asked Mhady and Setty who'd just walked into the studio.
"A piece of work," Setty said.
"Kay's bitch," Mhady replied at the same time with an exasperated expression. He had the unfortunate experience of catching a ride with Kay and his new girlfriend to the studio.
Kayla rolled her eyes at the fact that Kay was in a new and presumably toxic relationship. Of course. Another bitch he gon have me beat up in a few weeks.
Kay's new girlfriend, Alexis, was taken aback when she saw Makayla. She immediately ended her Instagram Live and dropped her phone into her purse when they reached the entrance to the studio. She prevented Kay from entering and pulled him back into the hallway.
"What's good with you?" Kay asked when he noticed his girlfriend glaring at him with her arms folded across her chest.
"Kay, who the fuck is that? You ain't tell me y'all be having bitches in the fucking studio."
Yagi, who was a few steps behind them, overheard Lex and scrunched up his face. "Don't call her no bitch. She don't even play like that," he warned her before disappearing into the studio.
"Ain't nobody scared of her. Who is she and why is she here, Kevin? I'm not gonna ask you again," she said, raising her voice louder.
Dougie and C Blu shared a look and snickered when they passed the couple.
"Calm the fuck down. She's my mans. She one of my day ones for real. We've been friends for like ten years plus," Kay replied.
"Oh okay," she replied dryly.
Alexis didn't like the thought of him being close to another woman. She wasn't okay with him having female friends but she realized that she couldn't do anything about it since they'd been friends for a long time.
"Fix your face," he said before pecking her lips. "I promise you ain't got no reason to feel a way. Come on. Imma introduce you to her and you'll see."
They walked hand in hand into the studio. Kay led Lex over to where Kayla was still perfecting the camera angles and settings.
Upon reaching the girl, Kay dropped Lex's hand and stepped into Kayla's personal space. "Where the fuck you been at? Like what's up with you? I know you seen me calling you," Kay spoke.
"My fault. I been busy." Kayla shrugged while still looking down at her camera, not wanting to make eye contact with him.
Kay took the camera from her hands. "Doing what?"
"What else? Filming and editing you bum ass nigga," Kayla said as she snatched her camera back from him.
Kay sucked his teeth and threw his arm over her shoulder. "Fuck all that. I needed you to go with me somewhere," he said a little quieter.
