Y/Ns POV

A deep sigh escapes me as my head falls into my hands. I can hear movement from outside the staff room I'm sitting in.

"Y/n?", my stern looking manager pokes his head into the room. "You're at the counter now".

I nod my head stand up rubbing my face a bit to try and wake myself up. Dropping my phone in my pocket, I go out to finish my shift.

The second I could, I said a quick goodbye and rushed outside to the bus stop. I only just made it on time and the familiar bus driver nodded at me as I got on. Sitting down in the same seat I always do, I put my headphones in and rest my head on the window, for the half an hour journey home.

When he pulls up I thank him and get off, slowly heading up my driveway. The lights in the house are on but my dads car isn't there. He's probably still stuck at work. Instead, a sleek white car is sitting in the driveway. I recognize it at once to be his girlfriend Elizabeths car.

I've only met her briefly a few times before when she's come over for a quick visit or before they go out, but I've never actually spent time with her. This should be awkward.

As I walk into the lounge I spot her on the couch. When she heard me come in she looks up quickly, smiling when she sees it's me.

"Oh hi Y/n", she tucks her hair behind her ears.
"Hi Elizabeth", I say politely, taking off my jacket and work uniform.
"Oh you can call me Lizzie", she says with a smile. "How was work?"

I hesitate for a moment, mulling the question over. "Uh...yeah it was alright"
"You don't sound convinced"
"Well it was work", I sigh and she nods understandingly.

"Tea?", she offers.
"Yes please".

"Do you know what time Robbie gets home?", I hear her ask as she bustles around the kitchen.
"It changes a lot but usually much later than this".
"Oh", I detect a hint of sadness in her voice.

"Everything good?"
"yeah I just-", she pauses. "Big week".

Now it's my turn to nod with understanding. She comes back with two cups of tea and sits beside me on the couch, handing me one. I thank her and turn on the tv. It's some pottery show that we're just watching to fill the silence.

After a few minutes I felt the room start to spin. I put down my cup shakily on the floor and feel Lizzies nervous eyes watching me.

"Y/n are you okay?". I can't bring myself to answer her as a sick feeling settles in my stomach. Everything started to feel hot and uncomfortable and I stood up to go to the bathroom. I didn't even make it past the couch before my knees gave out on the tiled kitchen.

Before everything went black I felt a pair of arms catch my back as I toppled towards the ground.

I cant've been out for more than a few seconds before I force my eyes open again. The first thing I see is Lizzies worried green eyes as she looks over me. The tile is cold on my cheek and I move to sit up, getting dizzy again.

"Woah, love, slow down", I hear Lizzie say, and freeze for a moment at the name. Her hands move under my back and lift my gently so my head is resting on her stomach. "Take it easy".

She hands me a drink of water and her hand gently strokes the side of my face. "Do you want me to call your dad?"
"No it's okay, he doesn't answer his phone when he's at work"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah definitely".

I heard her quietly mumble a concerned 'okay', but she didn't say anything.

After a minute or two she helped me up.
"Sorry that was so random"
"You have nothing to be sorry for. What have you had to eat today?"

"Uhm...some watermelon"
"Y/n...", she sighed. "I'll make you something"
"No it's ok-"
"Do you like mac n cheese?".

I smiled and nodded.

After she had forced me to eat a small bowl, I sat back down on the couch. Lizzie was sitting directly on the left to me and she kept looking over, making sure I was okay.

Dad would be due home in about an hour. A yawn escaped me and the woman beside me raised her eyebrows.

"You should go to bed", she told me, but I shook my head. Within ten minutes though, I felt my head bump against her shoulder as I was falling asleep.

I shot upright again but heard her laugh gently.
"You're alright Y/n", she reassured me, lifting her hand to the side of my head and guiding it back to her shoulder. I sighed contentedly and let my eyes close again, this time willingly succumbing to the tiredness that washed over me.

The steady rhythm of her breathing and the soft hum of the TV in the background lulled me to sleep as she ran her fingers gently through my hair.

Eventually I was roused from my half-asleep state by the front door opening.
"Hey, Y/n," my dad greeted, looking both surprised and concerned to see me nestled against Lizzie on the couch. "and Elizabeth?"

We both gave him tired "hellos" from where we were.
"What's going on?", he asked curiously, looking between us both.
"Y/n wasn't feeling well, so I kept her company. She's doing better now.", Lizzie told him, after it became clear that I wasn't saying anything.

Dad came over and felt my forehead. "You good kid?". I nodded, curling into Lizzies side and heard a breath of laughter escape him. "Well, looks like you found a good nurse," he chuckled, giving Lizzie a grateful smile. "I think you should go to bed now though".

When I made no effort to move, Lizzie slid out from underneath me and I felt her arms lift me up from the couch with ease. I wrapped my arms around her neck and she carried me to my room, tucking me gently into bed.

She went to walk out but I held onto her shirt, forcing her to come back. She laughed but came back anyway and crouched down on the floor so she was at my eye level as I lay on my side.

"Sleep well, love", she tucked a strand of hair behind my ears and leaned over to kiss me on the forehead. "I'll see you tomorrow".
