Scarletts POV
I locked my car and walked into the cute little Cafe. I smiled at Iris, the young barista who I'd grown quite fond of after seeing her every morning for the past year.

"Morning Scarlett", she chirped.
"Morning love, your an angel" I said gratefully after seeing she had already made up my order. A cup of coffee and a slice of banana cake, same thing every morning.

"Same again tomorrow I assume?" she asked me as I paid.
"You know it, thanks babe". I grabbed my order and went to sit down at my table.

At this hour it was usually pretty quiet, and anyone who was there was often just there to grab their coffees and go. I never had anyone sitting at my spot. Until today.

In my chair was a younger girl, maybe in her late teens, sipping on her Chai tea and reading a book.

I'm sure there's another table Scarlett. I think, unfazed. Then she lifts up her head, looking towards the door where someone has walked in and I get a proper look at her face. She looks vaguely familiar but I can't place it.

I sit down at the table beside her so it doesnt look so creepy me just staring at her. She doesnt seem to notice and goes back to her book.

"Uh, Y/n?", Iris calls out an order and the girl looks up with a smile. She grabs whatever cake she ordered and sits back down.

Y/n. It clicked.

"Y/n Y/l/n?" I ask  looking over and her and causing her to jump a little. A look of realization dawns on her almost immediately.

"Professor Johansson", she shifted her things to clear the seat opposite her and gestured for me to sit with her.

"Hi love, it's been a while"  I say as I sit down and she nods.

"How's your life been?" She asks.
"Pretty good, still teaching, but I mostly just do relief work now. I haven't seen you around here in a few years?"

"I moved back", I noticed she was fiddling around with her rings. "The parents decided it was time for me to, uhm, move out of the nest".

"They kicked you out?", my heart sank for the young girl. I remember when she was in my class she'd constantly have problems with them. It almost seemed lik-

"In a way".
"I'm sorry love", I offered her a weak smile. "Where are you staying?"
"I stayed in a hotel this past week, I didn't really get a chance to pack everything up so most f my stuffs still at home, but I've messaged some friends to see if I can stay with them for a bit".

I contemplated for a moment. "I've got a spare room if you want to use it?"
"Oh it's okay", she shrugged again, avoiding my eyes and looking out the window again.
"Please? It would give me peace of mind to know you're safe at least. Even just for a few days"
She looked doubtful but eventually nodded slowly.

"Thank you so much".

Later that day

Y/Ns POV
My head lightly hit against the window at every bump in the road. Scarlett was driving us home, we'd just stopped off at the hotel I was staying at so I could grab my one bag.

I saw her face when I had carried it out to the car, she looked sad, almost pitiful. I hated a pity look.

We drove mostly in silence, the soft radio created a nice background noise so it wasn't awkward. When I was in Scarletts class a few years ago I would often stay behind after class, she would always let me complain about my family for a while and then give me a hug before I had to go home.

I wonder if she remembers that.

I turn to her and her eyes flick back to the road. It was becoming dusk and I was already getting tired, my sleep schedule has been completely out of it. We had also just gotten some takeaways for dinner, which made me sleepy.

She pulls up at a nice family-sized home. It had a very homely feeling, it was nice. Scarlett led me to a guest room, and pointed to a room just down the hall.

"That one down there's my room if you ever need anything", she said, resting her hand on my shoulder. "Feel free to come in if you ever need anything, the tvs in the lounge and it's easy to use, just make yourself at home. Night love", I felt her give me a soft kiss on the top of my head and a warm fuzzy feeling came over me. Weird.

She brought me a glass of water and made sure there was an extra toothbrush and set of pajamas on my bed. It felt nice to have someone fuss over me.

I said goodnight and she looked like she wanted to say something else but instead she just smiled softly and left, closing the door behind her.

I got settled and tucked into bed, the house was really quiet. After an hour I was still awake and by now a bit restless. I got out of bed again and headed out into the lounge. Fumbling around in the dark for a moment I worked out how to turn her TV on and tucked up on the couch, wrapping myself up in the blanket that was draped over the back.

A few minutes went by and I heard shuffling down the hall. Scarletts face peeked around the doorframe.

"Oh shit, sorry did I wake you", I sit up quickly, turning down the TV more.
"No sweetheart you're okay, I couldn't get to sleep", she reassured me, sitting down beside me. I pull some of the blanket over onto her.

"Neither could I", I tell her and she wraps her arm around me.
"One of those nights".

She takes the remote and turns the TV back up. I was watching whatever was on at the time, which happened to be a masterchef rerun. We stayed up for quite a while, judging how everyone's dishes turned out.

Eventually we both grew tired and made our way to the bedrooms. She guided me into mine, tucking me into bed like my gran would've when I was younger. She moved my hair out of my face and a fluttery feeling went off in my stomach, causing a smile to grow on my face.

She smiled back at me with amusement.

"Goodnight love"
