-Prologue-
In the apocalyptic and haunting follow-up of the Titan onslaught, Morgan Everhart, with her contrasting silvery-white hair, was one of the few Scouts left standing. She traversed the broken ruins and debris scattered across Shiganshina - the home she was forced to abandon years ago. What was once her home was now just a wasteland of bodies and blood. The horrid stench of blood filled her nostrils, making her want to puke.
As the aftermath of a nearby Thunder Spear detonation had left many survivors deafened, Morgan suddenly encountered a young solider on the brink of death; their faces unknown to one another until now. The black-haired boy's eyes spoke nothing but terror and panic as his hearing had been robbed by the piercing howl of the Thunder Spear. The young Scout cried out in pain while blood cascaded out his ears, but the ringing in Morgan's ears completely drowned out his tormented shrieks that echoed across the ruins.
When Morgan's eyes glanced downwards, she noticed a gaping hole that had replaced the left side of his digestive organs. Understanding the cruel inevitability of the young boy's fate, the only thing on her mind was to grant him a somewhat peaceful farewell.
The second the boy had a moment numbed from the pain, he slowly cast his eyes towards the girl with the platinum hair. Using sign language, a way of communicating that Morgan was familiar with ever since her younger brother was born, she signed a single phrase: 'I love you'. It was universal phrase that even those unfamiliar with sign language would be able to understand.
The boy's ears were unable to hear words, but he was able to understand the silent but graceful message that Morgan held up to him. While these two had never met, the boy felt a moment of comfort from her gesture of compassion. Even in this bleak moment, the boy had come to a moment of peace where he was thankful to not face his end in complete isolation, but rather with a girl who wanted to simply bring kindness to the world. With a gentle smile, the brave Scout took his last breath.
Once Morgan carefully closed his eyelids, she finally let her tears flow freely. As she cried out to the dying Scout whose name she did not even know, she put her hands together and prayed for his peaceful transition to the afterlife. This was the 54th prayer she made that day, as another mental scar had been etched into her spirit. Even though her motivation was low, she persevered and persisted onwards. There was no reason for her to keep going, aside from a promise that she held close to her heart from someone she adored dearly.
-Part 1: The Girl and her Canvas-
The first few rays of golden light peeked through the tattered-checkered curtains in 10-year-old Morgan's bedroom, as she slowly began to open her eyes to a new day in the district of Shiganshina. There was a crisp breeze which came through the slightly ajar window, releasing the fresh spring-like smell into her bedroom. With this amazing smell lingering in the air, young Morgan immediately sat up in her bed as her sleep-dazed eye's started adjusting to the golden light which illuminated her room. Her room was empty – with only a bed, a cupboard in the corner, and a huge vertical mirror tucked next to the door. As she stretched and let out a prolonged yawn, she was able to hear her family already downstairs before her.
The constant bustle from the ground floor suddenly struck a chord in Morgan, and that was when she realised that today was a special occasion – it was her father's birthday and he was finally coming back home later today. Her little legs kicked the blanket off, and without wasting another second of the day, she hopped out of bed and ran straight to her mirror. The ambitious and excited girl stared into the reflection of her mirror, unsatisfied with the current state of her messy hair.
