The following days you laid curled up on the couch or in the windowsill, ignoring everything that happened around you. Kid and Killer were either fighting or ignoring each other as the evenings were filled with yelling, crashing and silence. Doors weren't slammed shut anymore as they hadn't survived the last time, the hinges still hanging crooked and wood splintered on the floor. Law had taken Corazon with him, catching up on everything that had happened. That left you alone in the sunlight cascading down through the window, your body searching the patch of sun all on its own as you were locked into your mind. Eyelids stayed closed, shielding you from your surroundings as you tried to sort out your feelings and whatever shitshow had played out right in front of you. Hunger that rumbled your stomach, punching you from time to time as you truly needed it, was ignored. The food gradually forgotten to eat or forgotten to be prepared for you, it didn't matter. You wouldn't eat either way, it seemed. Alike to most domestic cats, you let sleep take over your turbulent mind from time to time, the rest always too short for your small body as you'd move around for the next perfect spot when the sun rays had shifted.

Your ears flicked back and your whiskers shook as the door to the room opened with a creak. There were no sounds of footsteps coming closer or into the room and your body relaxed immediately, your unconscious mind seemingly settling once more. Without a word spoken, the person retreated from the door, back to where they came from. A draft from the open door whirled inside, your fur shifting to keep your body warm from the direction of the door. New scents were lifted from the house, wafting into the room. The shift caused your nose to wrinkle, ears flicking as your body tried to determine whether the scents and soft noises were dangerous to you or not, distinguishing them one by one.

"You look like shit." Heavy footsteps closed in on your chosen place to lie, the thudding reverberating through the floor. Lifting your paw, you hid underneath it, not that it would do much. It was the motion that had to do for now. Kid leaned his back against the wall, his face turned to you.

"And you smell."

"That barely hurt, baby girl."

Slowly, you peeked up at the man, your brows furrowed. "Since when do you call me that?" Kid shrugged, his vermilion gaze trained on you as he crossed his arms, flexing his muscles. Sighing, you let your paw drop from your furred face, pushing your upper body up to sit. "Alright, I'll act like you didn't just call me that."

"Now you wound me, (y/n)." Kid's lips tugged into a frown, his head tipped to the side as his gaze wandered over you completely. You felt conscious about your appearance suddenly, even as a cat. Your fur would probably be ruffled as you didn't lick it all clean or your waist would look too thin even to someone who didn't care for pets. Pressing your front paws closer to your body, you made yourself appear bigger than you were. "Is there.." He let the thought end there, his line of sight shifting as his left hand ruffled his hair. Discomfort, you realised. "Look, I.. Ugh. I can't do this shit, alright? I'm bad at this. Killer.. He's usually the one to.. comfort others." Turning his body, he now only leaned his shoulder against the wall, facing you completely. "I'm trying here." He sighed in a whisper. "And I can't do even that right."

Tilting your head to the side, you felt his sadness radiating from his whole body, combined with frustration and a shimmering anger. "But you still try, Kid." You responded to his unspoken anguish and doubt. Raising up completely, you took a few steps his way before patting his bare arm with your paw. "Sometimes it's enough to just try and other times, it's better to let go."
