Daemon and Lucerys were escorted to the arena. Luke couldn't understand why the captain of the guards, a blonde girl with blue eyes and a scar running across her face, had been eyeing him down for a while.
He was distracted from his thoughts by Taenira, which greeted them at the entrance of the Great Pit. The three of them sat down on a big platform, together with Xaro and the hierarcs of the city.
The arena was filled with people cheering and placing bets, waiting for their favourite champions to show up and for the tourney to begin.
It was a delightful night, warm but not suffocating. Hundreds of torches had been hung on each of the pillars that formed the huge arena.
As Taenira got distracted, Lucerys whispered in his father's ear: "Are you sure it was wise gifting an egg to that man?"
"We'll talk about this when we get on our ship"
"Jace must be wondering where we ended up"
"Do not worry, we're supposed to sail at dusk. We'll make it in time."
Their coversation got interrupted by a man, one of the hierarcs, standing up from his seat and announcing the beginning of the games: "People of Yunkai, thanks to the generosity of our beloved Xaro Tyrvos, we have been able to organize and host these games in this wonderful night." The crowd erupted in loud cheering as Taenira tried to keep up with the translations for the two princes.
The man, after a pause, continued: "Many champions from all across Essos are going to fight eachother to death tonight. Only the last three standing will live to see another day. During a final combat, however, the last one standing will bring glory and fame to his city. May the games begin!"
"Do you think she will be fine?" Luke was beginning to worry.
"She can look after herself Luke, I think she will."
Several gates opened on the bottom of the pit. From those emerged a dozen of figures; there were Dothraki fighters, with their curved Arahks in hand, as well as champions from Astapor, Tyrosh, Lys and even a wildling fighter from beyond the Wall.
And there, amongst them, was Lysarra. She looked short and thin compared to the beasts of men that were her opponents, and yet she wast the most calm and collected of them.
Each sector of the crowd cheered as their cities' champions were introduced by the same hierarc from before.
He introduced her at last, and the largest portion of the spectators begun shouting a word in yunkaian language in unison.
"What does that mean?" Luke asked Taenira. The woman smiled. "It means 'wrath' in the common tongue. The people of the city have given Lysarra the name 'The Wrath of Yunkai' for her ruthlesness in combat, my Prince"
Lucerys looked down at his bethroted, and he could swear that she was looking right back at him. He silently wished her good luck, and prayed to his gods to make her win.
"The first part of the games consists in single combat; six couples have been sorted between the twelve fighters. The members of each couple will face eachother in a fight atop horses." Taenira explained.
The first two matches took place, even tho Lucerys didn't pay much attention to them: he did not enjoy the sight of unnecessary bloodsheds.
Daemon had much trust in the girl's abilities, but he had to admit he felt a little nervous when her first opponent was announced: a Dothraki; his people were the best horse-riders in the world.
"Please do not worry my Princes. I have known Lysarra for years and I've seen her fighting dozens of times. She knows what she's doing." Taenira tried to reassure the two men.
