She reached the beach a little afterwards, careful not to be followed by one of Xaro's spies.
A hooded figure grabbed her, whispering in her ear "You're late."
"Sorry princess" Lysarra answered with a grin plastered on her face, holding her hands up in surrender.
The other woman lowered her hood to reveal long, shiny, blond hair, collected in a braid that started on the top of her head. Assia was as tall as Lysarra, she was lean and flat-chested, with her muscles visible even under her shirt and eyes blue and deep like Kira's.
A couple years earlier, she was one of the most beatiful girls in which Xaro had ever invested in. She still was in Lysa's eyes, even tho her Master would no longer agree with her. At that time, Assia was not very skilled in fighting, so she got hurt during a match in the Pit: a long scar had covered the left half of her face ever since.
From that day, her costumers diminished esponentially, so she had to find a way to avoid becoming useless and being kicked out by Xaro. So, she begun training twice as hard as her companions and she became a war machine. She was extremely lethal, maybe even more than Lysarra. She became the captain of Xaro's personal guard, a great honour for any slave of the city.
Lysarra had loved her unconditionally since they were nothing but children. She had loved her before the accident, she supported her during her training an she kept on loving her, scars and all, always.
The feeling was mutual, even tho Assia was more reluctant in showing her emotions.
The two girls sat down on the shore, and after a moment of silence, the blonde teased: "I heard your silver prince is back in town."
"He is." Lysarra answered while picking up small rocks and throwing them into the nearby waves. Her heart was sinking at the thought of proceeding with that conversation. "Assia, he wants me to leave with him. He asked me to sail to Westeros to join my family, my real family, in exchange for my aid in the war to come."
After contemplating for a while those words, the other girl finally answered with sadness in her eyes: "When?"
"Tomorrow morning. At dusk." The other girl nodded. "Well, I suppose this is a goodbye then."
"Is that it?" Lysarra asked. Please, say something. Anything. Please.
Assia finally turned towards her paramour. "Lys, I've never hidden my feeling towards you. You know I care for you deeply, and I understand that you want to know more about your family, your heritage. I know you want to get revenge on your father for abandoning you, and I know you feel in debt towards the Dragon Prince that has been so kind to you over the last years. Knowing all of these things, what kind of person would I be to stop you from achieving your goals? I knew this day would come sooner or later. I dreaded it. But exactly because I care for you so much that I must let you go."
Tears were treathening to spill from Lysa's eyes. "I don't deserve you, As. You're too perfect for this world"
"Hell yes I am" Assia joked in a poor attempt to hide the angst that was taking over her. "I just wish I could come with you"
"I tried to convince Daemon to bring you with us. Believe me, I really tried. But it would be too risky, according to him. My position as Lady is already unstable due to the fact I grew up in another continent, working as a whore most of my life. In Westeros peaople like me, like us, are not seen well, especially in the North."
"I understand, little wolf. I understand." Assia had been preparing herself for years for that moment, sure about the fact that sooner or later her beloved would have left her to accomplish her destiny. Nevertheless, she was only able to stare at the groung in that moment, barely able to contain her tears. She couldn't bring herself to look at her partner, afraid to see that the little girl she had shared her childhood with had really become a woman grown now.
"But i promise you this" Lysarra added "As soon as their bloody war is over, I will come and find you. Even if I have to search the Seven Hells, I will come back to you. and once I've found you, I will take you back with me, in my castle, and we will dance and make love and eat delicious foods all day. No more fighting, no more brothels, no more killings. I will hang my sword to a wall and never pick it up again. It will be just the two of us, as it was years ago. Fuck them bloody lords and ladies and their stupid traditions, I will have you in my bed all day, and we will not have a single worry in the world."
The two girls stared fondly at eachother, with tears now spilling freely on their cheecks and a smile on their faces. A glimpse of hope had made its way in their gazes.
Lysarra placed a hand on Assia's cheeck, caressing her lover's face and gently tracing her scar with a finger. Assia answered simply by leaning in her touch and smiling. Then, she placed her head on Lysa's lap, while the other girl caressed her hair.
"I bet you will look amazing in those pretty dresses that western ladies wear. I envy that boy so much only because he will be able to look at you in those." Assia jested.
"I bet there will be also many other ladies that look good in them. Maybe I could teach them one thing or two..."
"And I bet none of them will touch you like I do" Assia answered while slowly getting up.
"How?" Lysarra asked with a mischevious look on her face.
"Like this" the blonde girl answered while picking her up. She gently embraced with one arm on the small of her back, while her hand was cupping her face. Their breathing became slower as they were devouring eachother with their eyes, as if to memorize every detail of their partner's face.
Assia then closed her eyes and lowered her lips on Lysarra's. Their kiss, gentle at first, soon became passionate while their bodies were interwined, reluctant to let go of eachother.
When they finally split, they sat back down and enjoyed some more eachother's company, jesting and laughing like they did countless times as kids. They exchanged their matching rings they had found on that same beach while playing together as children. They were nothing more than two worthless small circles made of iron, and yet they looked like the greatest of treasures to them. Finally, Assia had to depart from her lover; a tournament was to be held in the Great Pit that night, and Xaro's guard had to get ther before it begun.
"Goodbye, my golden captain."
"Goodbye, little wolf."
After one last, heartbreaking kiss, Assia finally put up her hood and quickly lef the beach.
Lysarra sat there a while more, crying her heart out. She was not ready to leave her life there. And yet she had to. It wasn't the moment to be emotional. She let her tears dry out while watching the sun setting in the sea.
While she finally had started heading home, a child she recognised as Xaro's servant approached her. He told her she had been summoned with immediate effect by their Master.
Lysarra thanked the child and begun running towards the High Palace, not wanting to upset Xaro by being late.
