The journey

The journey proceeded rather uneventfully. Lysarra spent the first days in her cabin, weeping the life -and the people- she had left behind. Even tho she was sure she made the right choice, she had a hird time adapting to drastic changes in her life.

At least her wound was healing pretty fast. Daemon had stitched it as soon as they had gotten on board.

Every day, either Jace, Luke or Daemon would bring her meals in her cabin. They usually tried to star conversating with her, about the weather or her healt conditions, but she would politely decline any attempt of chatting.

She would only come out at night, when the rest of the ship was asleep. She would spend hours on the deck, wondering if Assia was looking at the moon too.

Kira would comfort her during those long days. Neither of them was really used to travelling on water.

One night, as she was pacing on the deck, she realised she wasn't alone. The Rogue Prince was also looking at the stars.

She begun her retreat towards her cabin, but she stopped in her tracks as he adressed her.

She sat beside him and they kept looking at the sky in a comfortable silence for a while. Daemon was the one who broke it.

"I'm sorry. For everything. I should have gotten you out of that hellhole the moment i found you."

She exhaled deeply. "Things aren't always that easy."

"Please, Lysarra forgive me. I promised to myself I would have protected you to honor your mother, and I failed."

"There's nothing to forgive." A couple more silent minutes passed by.

"What was she like?"

"Mmhm?"

"My mother, what was she like?"

A chuckle escaped the prince's lips. "You're just like her. She was fierce, headstrong and honest. And she was beautiful and cold, just like the northern landscape."

"I wish I had met her." She remembered the wave of angst and disappointment that flooded her the day Daemon had told her about her mother's death. Apparently, she had died giving birth to her.

"She would have liked you" The prince added.

A genuine smile formed on the girl's face. It was the first in days, and a single tear ran down her cheek.

She decided not to investigate further on the subject, as it evidently pained both of them.

From that night on, she decided to change her approach to the journey. She imagined her mother would have wanted her to enter her new life in the best way possible.

She started interacting with both Jacaerys and Lucerys on a daily basis. She sought their companionship more and more as the days went by.

They would chat all day, take walks on the deck and eat their meals all together.

She introduced them to Kira, and she was relieved to see the wolf liked them. It did not happen often.

Neither of the brothers ever asked her about her past, nor she wanted to talk about it. They all silently agreed on the fact it could be talked about once they were on Dragonstone together.

One night, Daemond was surprised to find them all asleep in the girl's cabin. Apparently, they had stolen a couple of wine bottles from the storeroom and had drunk so much they had fallen into a deep sleep. The two boys were laying on the floor at the feet of Lysarra's bed, next to Kira.

Daemon looked at them, at his family, and smiled, renewing his silent promise to himself: he would protect them, no matter the cost.
