The view from the balcony was always spectacular. It's something I've always admired since I was a kid. From the balcony of the tallest building in Zaofu, my mother's home, the tower most people call it, you could see the treetops spread miles from the city to the mountains. In evening times, it has the most beautiful sunsets. The rays of light shine the brightest when it hits the edges of the mountains, showing off different shades of oranges, yellows, and the occasional reds.
With it now being nighttime, you could see every star in the sky, all the constellations. When I was young, I would reach up towards the moon, always wondering if I could ever touch it, with it feeling so close to as high as we were. Then there are the sounds of the woods below. Hoots of the owl-hawks, chirping crickets, the howls of the coyote-cats, and so much more. Yes, it was definitely something. And it was amazing to be able to experience it all once again. I missed this feeling, the view that repeats in my memory.
Though I no longer live here, Zaofu will always be my home and where my family is. There's nothing wrong with the Southern Air Temple, they have sunsets similar to Zaofu and the other airbenders are the friendliest people in the world, but my old home will always have a special place in my heart. And I'll always have a place in Zaofu with the rest of my family.
We visit whenever there's a chance and spend time with the rest of our family. But this visit is different than most. Every once in a while, my mother, Suyin Beifong, will call us in for what she believes is a new lead on our mission. Which is why we are here now. She wants more updates about our progress so far, which, unfortunately, and as usual, is no success.
I didn't come up here to lean against the railing and mope. No, I want to enjoy what I got now. The view of the stars and the treetops, the lights of the city below me, the echoes of the woods. It was so peaceful, and oh so quiet.
"It's beautiful."
Or, it was. Bolin was leaning against the doorframe, the lights from the inside dimmed around him, but the smile could still be seen on his tired face, and it was very contagious.
"Yeah, I suppose it is a beautiful night."
"Oh, I wasn't talking about that."
The smile turns into a frown and before I could react, he wraps his arms around me and kisses my cheek. "I was talking about my beautiful, strong, smart, powerful airbending, and butt-kicking wife." All worries from before disappear within that moment and the smile reforms. I wiggle myself into his embrace, wrap my arms around his neck and return the kiss, this time on the lips.
Wife. Sometimes I still feel like I'm dreaming when he calls me that. Who would've thought that he would ever call me that?
So much has changed in the past eighteen years. Although spirits still run around the streets of Republic City and the Spirit Forest, things haven't exactly changed in the world. Technology hasn't advanced much and nothing major has happened since Kuvira, my sister-in-law, took over the Earth Kingdom. The damage done from the battle is repaired and peace was made, and the Earth Kingdom is slowly in the works of strengthening back up, almost back to normal. Other than that, everything is still the same. The only thing that's changed, is the people.
