Not being chosen

Chapter 8

"Why are you back so early?" Alex asks.

"Let's just say that Kate's parents are armed which means they are getting prepared" Theo says sounding worried.

"Did they tell you anything?" Alex questions

"no" Theo says

but I say "yes they did they told us so much".

"What they said nothing" Theo looks at me confused and I say

"think about it they made you leave your guns outside just so they could point a gun at you without being in danger, thanks to me I made you keep a gun and I had mine. Then they told us that beneficent had an important decision to make that only beneficent can know, yet I'm their daughter".

Now Alex is looking at me confused so I push my hands into my pockets but find a note I pull it out and look at it.

"What is it?" Theo asks interested.

"A note from my mother" I say looking shocked.

"Give it to me that doesn't belong to you" Alex says angrily.

"Then why does it say 'to Kate'?" I ask sharply.

"Read it out loud" Alex says.

I look at him then at Theo and then I read it to them.

"It says 'to my dear Kate. You are in trouble, you need to get yourself out of the close somehow. The beneficent are planning to attack the close. They will attack in five days. I know you will be angry but it's what the beneficent have to do and they will kill anyone and everyone in the close. If you get yourself out of the close then come straight to our house in beneficent so we can protect you. Please Kate what ever you do do NOT read this to anyone but yourself. I love you Kate I hope you know that. From your mother".

I then look up and realise how much danger my mother and father are in now.

"I have a plan" Alex says

"what will happen is you Kate will go to your mother and father as a spy for us say that you got away. Whilst that's happening we will get all of the close members and learners to fight. They will train hard for the next four days. On the day before they fight we will rest for half of the day so that we have all of our muscles and energy ready to fight".

I look at Alex and actually think that this plan will work but I don't know whether I can betray my parents

"I don't want to betray my parents though" I say.

Alex walks towards me brings out his knife and pins me against the wall

" you will do this otherwise this knife goes through yours and all your friends throat. Understand?". I look at him and nod. He smiles releases me and says "good.

Theo get everyone to train" "yes sir" Theo runs off and tells Ashton to get everyone training then comes back.

"I'll take her to beneficent but then leave" Theo says I look at him and say

" don't worry I can get myself there".

Alex smiles and says "it's settled then, she will walk to beneficent and we will train.

Kate you will leave in three hours so get some training in".

"Yes leader Smith" I nod and walk to the training rooms with Theo.

"This is dangerous to dangerous for you" Theo says.

"I know but I'm ready, I have to do it I don't get a choice" I say.

I look to him and say "nobody gets a choice".

"I know but I suppose it would be nice to be able to have a choice do you not agree?" Theo asks.

"Of course it's just right now maybe we need people to make choices for us" I say and we walk into the training room.

I spend the next two and a half hours training shooting, throwing knifes and fighting but I only hit punching bags.

I then take five guns, five knifes and some clothes and then I head off to beneficent before I leave Alex says to me

"good luck we'll see you in four days. That's when we'll come. Is that okay?".

"Yes of course I'll get as much information as I can".

As I walk out the door I feel scared that they might not except me after what I did on the visiting day.

But I know what I have to do and I'm ready.
