The canon sounded, signaling the start of the games, Ataroxia bolted through the various carnival rides, and toward the trees. There was an orange backpack with a bat next to it, she quickly changed course and grabbed the bag. Before she could even pick up the bat one of the tributes tackled her to the ground, a knife inches above her throat. Just as the knife was about to be plunged into her skin, Blood splattered in her face and Ataroxia was utterly terrified, thinking it was her own.
♡
Finnick and Millia held their eyes on the screen, watching intently as their tribute was being attacked. Callahan had died in the first minute, he bolted for the cornucopia even though both of his mentors sided against it. he was nailed right between the eyes by a knife thrown by district eights girl. Milly clutched the pillow she was holding harder then seemed possible as the screen cut out to a clip of Ataroxia being tackled by the girl from 6, Lavender Hollows. She had a knife held to her throat. Willow, somehow came out of nowhere and shot the girl in the head.
Finnick watched as blood splattered all over Roxi's face."Ataraxia, what the hell are you doing? Get up and run"said Willow, grabbing her arm and running with her.
"Come on, Roxi. Win for me" He muttered.
♡
Ataroxia couldn't build up the courage to look behind her at the dead body of the girl from 6 that Willow had shot to save her.
Quickly, the pair climbed up the tree. Their small, agile body's where able to do it with ease, however it would be extremely difficult for a tribute like the boy from 2. Willow held a gun and a bright purple backpack, While Ataroxia held a wooden baseball bat, and a bright orange backpack.
The two girls- perched in the tree- began searching through their bags. "There's a spool of rope in mine" said Roxi.
"Me too" Willow spoke, pulling hers out. "It's almost dusk, we should tie ourselves in so we can sleep here." She carefully wrapped the rope around herself, and Ataraxia did the same. Their bags consisted of, rope, a dagger, 4 bags of dried food in each, a lighter, a water canteen, and a bottle of Iodine.
Ataroxia had just begun dozing off when the loud capital anthem blared in her ears. "What the fuck?" She muttered, opening her eyes and covering her ears.
♡
Finnick observed closely as the fallen tributes pictures lit up the night sky of the arena. 10 dead. The boy from district one,no one from two, the girl from district three, Callahan from district four, both tributes from five, the girl from six, nobody from seven, the boy from eight, the girl from nine, No one from ten, the girl from eleven, and the girl from twelve.
Finnick was beyond happy that Ataroxia had made it through the bloodbath, her first day. Everyone else might not know what shes capable of, but he knew. She could win. She just needed to want it enough.
♡
Ten dead. "I counted ten" Willow said.
"So did I" Ataraxia replied.
"At least there's less competition now. Not as many people to kill."
"Yeah.." Ataraxia yawned. "I'm gonna try and catch some sleep. Tomorrow we should really find water. That has to be our main goal. We wont survive long without it."
"Alright, goodnight Rox." Willow mumbled as they both got comfortable- well, as comfortable as they could be tied to a tree.
♡
Ataroxia woke up to the muffled sound of voices below her. Her caramel eyes fluttering open. "I'm telling you, She's an easy kill. We just have to find her" One of the voices said.
"Yeah, but what about her ally? Willow? She has incredible aim. Did you see her with Lavender? Shot her right in the head"
"I know Castellan." The voice paused hearing the "wind" rustle in the trees. "Lavender was being the idiot she was, and stopped paying attention to her surroundings, That's all on her. I bet when it really comes down to it she'll be just as easy to kill."
Ataraxia carefully put her weight on a branch next her and looked down upon the two boys. Easy to kill? I mean, yeah, that's what she was going for, but she was definitely not easy to kill, at least she hoped she wasn't. The boys continued walking through the small forest, while Roxi stared up at the stars. She obviously knew they where fake, but couldn't help thinking about how beautiful they are. They remind me of Finnick.. she thought. She continued gazing at the stars and twirling her necklace in her hands until dawn.
As the sun began to peek up from behind the trees, she gently shook Willow, attempting to wake her. "Up and at em'." Ataroxia stated, slowly untying herself. Willow jumped slightly at being shaken awake. "We've gotta find water." she added, pulling her backpack over her arms and grabbing the bat.
Just before Ataraxia was going to climb down the tree, her necklace fell from her neck. Willow, with her fast reflexes, caught it right before it got out of reach. "Woah. This is gorgeous, where'd you get it?" She asked, taking in every detail of the pendant.
"Uh, Finnick gave it to me." Ataroxia mumbled, not looking at her friend. "Before I came into the arena."
"I love the crystals.." Willow stated, staring in fascination.
"What crystals?" Roxi asked, pulling the necklace from her hands and clasping it around her neck once again.
"The blue one? In the middle?"
"Cool." Atroxia muttered, before beginning to climb down the tree, Willow following closely behind.
