Chapter 5

I sit up straight after the most recent thought registers in my mind.

Was it my own? No I don't think so. It had a voice, I don't know who's voice but it wasn't mine.

What if someone finds out?

A new thought from the same person. I focus on that voice.

No-one can. How would they? I'm always so careful.

My head hurts. It's so loud in here.

Wait?

What was that?

I read the one-sided conversation, wishing I knew who's brain these thoughts belonged to.

I look around the room, most students are talking to someone else.

Suddenly, the thought from this person almost make my heart stop. I replay it over and over in my head.

Someone else in here can read minds. I can hear it in their thoughts. I don't know who it is. I must find out. I HAVE TO FIND OUT.

The thought screams in my ears and I feel the same need to know exactly who this person is. The problem is, it could be anyone in this school.

The bell rings for recess and Evelyn bounces over to me.

"Hi Cordelia."

"Hello." I reply in a rush, trying to pinpoint the thoughts to someone in this class. I can't.

"Are you ok?" Evelyn looks concerned.

"Yes i'm fine." I reply and realise how strange I must look, so I stop looking around at everyone.

"Good." Evelyn's face lights up and she drags me out into the hallway. Someone stands on my foot.

"I'm so sorry." A male voice apologises.

"All good." I reply and Evelyn drags me away again.

It's only after we are outside that I realise.

The thoughts, his voice.

They are the same.

They sound the same!

THAT GUY IS A MINDREADER.

I JUST MET THE MINDREADER AND I DIDN'T EVEN LOOK AT HIS FACE.

That means I still have no clue who he is.

AAAAAAAAAAH

I scream internally and then ask Evelyn.

"Who was that guy?"

"What guy?"

"The one who stood on my foot."

"No idea." Evelyn dismisses my question.

I'm filled with impatience and anger.

Not at Evelyn.

At myself.

"I'm going to get something from my locker." I announce and turn away.

"I'll come." Evelyn follows me.

I don't reply to her. I want to be alone, in complete silence, but of course that's not an option for me is it.

Evelyn chatters on and on.

I barely listen to what she says.

I'm so focused on finding out who that guy was, i'm like a zombie for the rest of the day.

I'm no use for anything.

When the bell goes for the end of the day, I am one of the first people out the gate.

A/N

Dun dun dah!

There is another mind reader!

Sorry about the short chapter. I couldn't think of anything else to add to it.

Thanks for reading and have a good day.
