I thought I knew what a mountain was like
Till I stood in the valley, gazing at the sky
The peaks seemed so distant, reaching for the heavens high
A humbling realization, as my spirit began to fly
I thought I understood the strength of a mountain's might
But in that valley, I saw their true height
Their grandeur and power, a breathtaking sight
A reminder of nature's wonders, shining so bright
I thought I grasped the essence of mountains' grace
Yet from the valley, their beauty embraced my space
Their rugged slopes and majestic embrace
An awe-inspiring presence that time can't eraseAuthor's note: Written in rural south Dakota
