When the rest of the vampire clan arrived, I was sitting on the ground, chatting with Tony and Rudolph. Anna sat down gracefully beside us, and joined in our conversation.
It was when I checked my watch when I jumped up, flabbergasted. "It's almost eleven! Tony! Mom and Dad'll be home any minute now!" I said, my eyebrows raised in surprise.
Almost immediately, Tony jumped up too, brushing dirt off of his pants. Rudolph stood as well. "I can fly you home. It'll be quicker," he offered.
I nodded. I turned to face the rest of the family. "Thank you. I appreciated it," I thanked them, bowing my head slightly in respect.
Freda smiled her usual moony smile. Fredrick nodded silently, but appreciatively. Anna hugged me good-bye, shocking me a bit. Rudolph squeezed my hand. And Gregory...he stared at me with his arms crossed and made a silent curse at me.
I resisted sticking my tongue out at him. A definite childish act that I would not do.
I spun on my heel, slightly irritated with Gregory's attitude. Rudolph clasped my hand and Tony's, and soared off.
I shut my eyes to stop all aches before they started. I barely felt like I was in the air, but I could also feel that there wasn't any solid ground beneath my feet.
"Rudolph, can you see who's in that car there?" Tony asked out of interest.
I peeked my eyes open a bit to see what Tony was talking about.
"Yes. The car is deep green, and there is a man and woman in it. Man talking vividly, and waving his hands. Woman is resting her head in her hand, looking tired and angry," Rudolph replied in a matter-of-fact tone.
My eyes snapped open. "Crap! Mom! Dad! Rudolph, fly faster!" I commanded, clearly in panic now. What if they beat us home and found us gone? They would blame me! And...they would call the police! Or whatever they were called here.
Rudolph sped up generously, making my stomach swoop. I squeezed my eyes shut again in fear of seeing the high ground beneath me.
Abruptly, there was sudden ground under me. I opened my eyes to find the hard wooden floor of Tony's bedroom beneath me.
Tony was already throwing off his shoes and jumping into bed. Rudolph sat at the window, ready to take off again.
"Thank you Rudolph!" I called before he flew off, smiling.
Footsteps in the hall made me click back into reality. I sprang to the nearest chair and pulled it to Tony's bed. I took a book from his nightstand and opened to a random page.
"And so, the vampire did not die in the sun. He disappeared in a wisp of purple smoke," I said, reading a sentence as our parents walked in.

My parents looked surprised to see me reading to Tony in such a pleasant way. Ususally we're at each other's necks, trying to kill each other.
Mom sat down beside Tony and stroked his hair. "How was your night?" she asked casually.
Tony tried to hide a huge grin. "Exciting, actually."
Dad looked at me strangely. "Exciting? What did Elizabeth do to make it exciting?"
Tony thought up an excuse for a moment. "She made me do my homework, but in a fun way. Then she made me take my bath, but let me use some of her bubble bath stuff. Then she let me watch something on her computer. Now she's putting me to bed," he clarified, smiling.
I almost blew out a sigh of relief. Tony could give away the most wanted secret in the world and not know it. I'm glad he came to his senses this time.
"Well, thank you Elizabeth. I can take over from here now. Run off and take your shower and get ready for bed," Mom said, tousling Tony's hair.
I grinned, then half-walked, half-ran out of the room, estatic.
