We kept racing through the empty field in silence. I needed to speak. I needed to ask a question.
"Gregory?" I said.
"Hm?"
"Do...do you remember anything of your human life?"
He thought for a moment, closing his eyes. I was scared. What if he hit something while he was running?
"I remember bits and pieces of it. I don't know any of the emotions. Those got washed away," he replied after a while. "Why do you ask?" Gregory opened his eyes.
I pondered for a moment. "I was curious," I replied, lying.
He nodded briefly, and we began to arrive in the early parts of the graveyard.

When we stopped at the square in the ground where Tony and Rudolph were, Gregory lifted me off of his back. I hoped this wasn't the end of our peace.
Tony and Rudolph came running out of the bushes. Tony hugged me, and so did Rudolph. Aw, how cute.
Freda and Fredrick followed them. Fredrick's mouth was turned into a grim line, and I suspected an arguement was arising. Freda had the same moony smile on her face.
I thought Fredrick was going to blow up on me, since I actually led the man to their hiding spot. But something else happened...
"Why did you go off and save her, Gregory?! That was foolish! Rookery would've returned her! It was a trap!" he exclaimed, fuming.
Gregory bowed his head in shame. "Father, I-"
"Enough! You are not allowed to be near her if you cannot control yourself!"
I felt my cheeks burning with embarressment. What? Gregory DIDN'T like me. He couldn't.
"Um, it wasn't his fault. It was mine. He followed me because he wanted to see if I was going to be safe. Rookery followed me. It's my fault," I interupted in a small voice.
Freda clutched Fredrick's arm gently. "Dear, they're only children. Don't take it out on them," she said in a mild tone.
Fredrick turned away, thinking intently. "No, I suppose I was a little harsh. But it doesn't excuse the fact that our home has been found out," he replied.
I nodded in agreement, glad he didn't lash out on us.
"You can stay at our house!" Tony said cheerfully.
All of us stared at him in bewilderment. "The cellar! You guys can stay in the cellar! It's the empty part of the house. No one goes down there," he explained.
Fredrick thought this over. "But why are you offering it to us?"
I cut in. "We don't want you to die. Rookery will never know if you're hiding in our house," I said.
All of the vampire clan thought this over. Fredrick made up his mind. "Alright, show us the way."

Tony and I led the vampires to our house carefully. We were on the lookout for Rookery, who mysteriously seemed to vanish.
Finally, my eyes found the bright lights of our large house. I stepped over the wet grass and led them to a outside way to get in the cellar.
One by one, they dropped in. Gregory was the last. He looked at me for a moment, then said, "Thank you."
"No problem," I replied, a little confused with his attitude. What did Rookery do to the old Gregory?
