Maya POV

My eyes widened.

I got booked for my first ever gig at a party!

I looked at the songs that they wanted me to perform.

Eyes Wide Open

We'll be the Stars

Can't Blame A Girl For Tryin'

Your Love's Like

and my cover of Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran.

I had to meet with the hostess of the party.

Riley Matthews.

She was the prettiest, smartest, richest, and most popular person in the entire campus of John Quincy Adams High.

The meeting was in an hour. I slipped on a blue dress and wore a pair of matching blue pumps. I left my hair down and quickly coated my lashes with mascara. I grabbed my phone and ran out the door. I caught a subway and made it to the address on the flyer.

It was a large country club. Her parents, Cory and Topanga Matthews, were the owners. As I filed into my seat, I noticed that I was two minutes late. Twelve people sat at the table. One, a representative from a catering company. Another, a professional decorator. I noticed that most of the people there were professionals and that Riley, Sarah (her best friend), and I were the only teenagers at the table.
Topanga Matthews started the conversation.

"Thank you all for coming. We are here because my daughter is turning sixteen next Saturday. If I have no objections, we will get right down to business." She stated, pausing. Her light pink lips and dark colored dress gave the effect of a strict businesswoman. Riley, however was quite the opposite. She wore bright red lips and a turquoise top with jeans.

"Alright then." She continued. "First off, let's go around the table and state who we are and why we are here. I'm Topanga Matthews and I'm here because I own this property and because I am her mother."

"I'm Maya Hart and I'm here because I was hired to perform live music." I said. Once we got to Riley and Sarah, they let their true colors show.

"I'm Sarah Carpenter and I'm here because I am Riley's best and richest friend."

"I'm Riley 'Princess' Matthews and I'm here because this party is all about me, me, me!"

"Alright then." Topanga stated. "Let's continue."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was Saturday, the night of the party. I slid on a ruffled white dress and nude heels. I carefully applied a natural makeup look and hot pink lipstick. I curled the ends of my hair and carefully hooked on my favorite necklace. I grabbed my phone and headed on the subway, to the country club. I found the stage and the equipment was already set up. I reapplied my lipstick and waited for my cue.
"And now, as your party entertainer, Miss Maya Hart!" Topanga introduced. I walked out on stage. I glanced through the crowd. Big turnout. I stepped up to the mic and started talking.
"Hey everyone! I'm Maya and I know what it's like to be an outcast. To go through the day unnoticed. And worst of all, to be humiliated in front of a guy that you like. This song is called Can't Blame A Girl For Tryin' and I actually wrote it myself."
Once I had finished performing that song, I moved on to the next one.
"So I actually wrote four other songs that I plan on performing later on, but for now, I plan on performing a cover of one of my favorite songs. By Ed Sheeran, here's Thinking Out Loud.
