Maya Hart seemed immune to any type of illness, until the stomach flu came around.

She threw up for the third time that morning. It was currently 6:57 on a Friday morning and she was about to miss picking Riley up. She quickly rushed to Riley's.

"Seven o' clock, Riles."

"Breakfast, Maya." Topanga held out a bowl of oatmeal. It looked just like the stuff she'd thrown up only minutes before. She threw up a little in her mouth.

"I'm good, Mrs. Matthews."

"You don't have a choice, hon." She slowly walked to the table and sat down. She knew that whatever she put down in her throat would just come up again later, but she still slowly forced the oatmeal into her stomach.

"You okay, Maya?" Riley asked.

"I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah. I just-" She hesitated. "got a letter from my dad. He said he's happier without me and that we were holding him back." Truth was, she got that letter a week ago, but didn't tell anyone. She couldn't let Riley know that she was sick.

She'd go to Rileytown, getting those masks that nurses and doctors wear for everyone in the school. She'd even make an announcement over the school PA system. That's what had happened when Maya came down with a mild cold in sixth grade.

"I'm so sorry Maya." Riley tried comforting her.

"Do you want to talk about it, honey?" Topanga asked.

"Not right now. Let's get going, Riley." They started heading out the door.

Once homeroom (Mr. Matthews-History) started, Maya felt queasy.

"Mr. Matthews, can I have a bathroom pass?"

"It'll have to wait, Miss Hart. We're starting on Belgium 1831."

"Yyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy!" Farkle exclaimed.

Maya felt the oatmeal rising in her stomach.

"Mr.Matthews, please, it's urgent."

"Is it that time of the month?"

"No! Mr. Matthews, I just need a bathroom pass."

"Okay, just give me a minute." He said shuffling through papers on his desk.

"Late slip, hall pass..." He muttered.

"Cornelius A. Matthews, give me a bathroom pass!"

"How about a detention slip? I'll see you after school tonight, Maya."

"Whatever." She ran out the door.

"Miss Hart, you get back in here right n-"

Just then, she couldn't hold it in anymore. She clutched her stomach and puke spilled on the tile floor of the hallway.

"-ow."

"Maya, are you okay?" Riley questioned.

"I don't kno-" Just then, she vomited all over Riley's new blouse and flats.

"Riley, I'm so so-" Now, she couldn't stop. It was spilling from within her. Cory grabbed her daughters' half ponytail, ripped out the hair-tie, and pony-tailed Maya's locks.

"Lucas, take her to the nurse. Make sure she's upright, so it stops flowing. Detention canceled, Miss Hart."

"Yes, sir." He carried her bridal style to the nurse's office. Her chin was dribbled in vomit and her ponytail had already slipped out and her blond curls cascaded down his arm. Her eyes were gracefully shut and her forehead was beaded with sweat. Lucas ran into the office and set her on the bed.

"She threw up." Lucas stated. She felt her forehead.

"Yep. Fever. She could have anything. I'll need you to wait in the hallway. We're doing some personal tests." He exited the room.

"What happened?"

"She has a fever. Mrs. Meyer's just running a few more tests."

"Tests? More like asks her what's wrong, calls her mom, hands her a motrin, and sends her home with a smile." Riley said.

"Pretty much, yeah."

"Well, I'm waiting here." They stood in silence for a few minutes. Then, Mrs. Meyer walked out with a tired Maya.

"Stomach flu. I recommend ginger ale, crackers, and lots of bed rest. Her mother is aware of her illness and suggests that one of you walk her home."

"Oh, I already have plans with Farkle. You two have fun." She winked and walked away.

"Well, you gonna walk me home or what?" Maya asked in a hoarse voice.

"Yeah." Lucas guided Maya to her apartment. His hands were on her shoulders the whole way. He walked her in the door and lay her on the couch. She had fallen right asleep. He took a plate and put a few saltine crackers on it. He went down to the gas station and bought a glass bottle of Vernors (she claimed glass bottles taste better). He grabbed a motrin and a glass of water. He set everything on the coffee table with a napkin and a note.

Hope you feel better! I went back to school earlier, but I'll be back at four. Momma said crackers and ginger ale always cured a sick stomach, so I left some here for you. Take the motrin as soon as you wake up to help the fever.

He headed back to school, thinking about her the rest of the day.
