It was around three in the morning and I still stared up at the ceiling waiting for sleep to take me. I had been up pretty much all night, occasionally drifting to sleep but that didn't last long. My wolf was restless inside. After awhile I decided maybe a quick run in my wolf form would help ease my mind and let out whatever was keeping me awake. So I got up out of bed, quickly walked downstairs and out the back door. Luckily when the pack had moved we took up residence in a mansion located somewhere in the woods, so there wasn't much of a chance for humans to see us if we roamed around in wolf form. It also gave many opportunities to sneaking out at night... without having to worry about other pesky wolves nearby.
Once I got outside I quickly slipped off my clothes and took off at a run towards the edge of the woods. I shifted midair and landed on all fours, never breaking stride. The wind felt great rushing through my fur. After about an hour of running and exploring the new territory, I decided I should probably get back so I could hopefully sleep a little bit before school in the morning. Soon after arriving at the mansion, I picked up my clothes in my muzzle and trotted quietly up to my room. Something still felt off, but I was at least able to sleep for a bit longer than before.
A few hours later I woke up to some of the younger pack members howling downstairs. How cute right? You may think so but when it happens around the same time every morning you sort of get the urge to put a muzzle on them to shut them up. I rolled my eyes and laid in bed for a few minutes longer before finally getting up. I hadn't realized I must have shifted back into human form sometime last night until one of the male pack members walked in to wake me up- without knocking.
"Zakayaa it's time t-... whoa, um, okay I guess you're... I'm just gonna go," he said as he quickly turned around and shut the door.
Despite being embarrassed, I couldn't help but laugh at Iza's reaction. I had a feeling his face was probably redder than mine. Deciding that I was going to need a little humor today, I felt brave enough to embarrass him a little more and added, "Aw leaving so soon? The show was just beginning." I could tell it took a minute to sink in before I heard Iza growl from somewhere down the hallway. That only caused me to laugh more.
As the thought of going back to high school crept into my mind, I shook off what just happened and started to get ready. Being that I was going to be a new student among humans, I decided I should probably wear something more simple and "normal" so I didn't stand out as much. As a result, I chose a black tee and acid-wash jeans. Although in appearance I come off as normal human being, humans still tend to pick up on the fact that there's something different about us, which can lead to fear even if they don't realize why. I could already tell this year was going to be difficult.
I took one long look in the mirror before heading downstairs. I couldn't help but notice something different. Physically my appearance was the same; same green eyes, same softly colored lips, long, dark hair, and the marking that appears above my collar bone to symbolize my place in the pack. My skin color was oddly pale compared to other werewolves, but it was still normal to me. Everything seemed in place, yet I felt like something was missing.
I stood there a minute longer before heading downstairs to eat breakfast. As I entered the kitchen I was instantly greeted by one of the younger pack members and smiled at Chepi's excitement to see me.
"You excited for school?" I asked her.
"Oh yeah... totally." Her voice was laced with sarcasm.
I couldn't help but smile at that; she smiled in return.
"Just hang in there, it'll be over before you know it."
"Thanks Zak," she said before wondering back over to the table.
I helped cleanup breakfast and talked to a few of the other pack members before going to school. I noticed Iza awkwardly glance my way a few times and winked at him as I walked out the door. Soon after arriving at school, I could already feel that something was going to happen, something was off.
