Odette

"Eric! Eric! Let me see him" I screamed at Benedict as he blocked me from entering the door of the wounded

It had been 12 hours since they won the battle against prince Edward, I sensed something was wrong and stressed to Elida that we had to ride back to the kingdom. She was against it and by the time we finally got the clear to enter I was told Eric was in critical condition

Nobody had told me what happened as I begged for answers, all I knew was that I couldn't feel him anymore and the face Benedict wore told me that he didn't believe Eric was going to make it. They were able to detain prince Edward but the bastard was still alive, Benedict had told me he was in worse shape than Eric but I refused to believe that since that devil was alive and breathing

"Benedict, I swear to the fairy gods if you do not move out my way I will kill you" I shouted bawling my hands in a fist

"I cannot let you in there! Odette, please calm down" he yelled back at me

The door suddenly opened and we both turned anxious to hear the news, the doctor had blood all over his gloves as he looked at us in distress, "the prince is stable but we must keep an eye on him as he seems to be in a coma" the old man told us

I broke down on the floor thankful that Eric was still alive, but hearing he was in a coma didn't ease my anxiety. Benedict and I both rushed in to see his unconscious body laying in the bed. He was shirt less as there were bandages wrapped tightly around his torso, looking at him in this state broke me as I couldn't believe we almost lost him

I know our relationship isn't perfect right now but if he dies... I don't know what I would do without him

"He looks tired" Odette whispered as she sat on the floor

"It's all my fault" Benedict quietly spoke. The battle wasn't over but for now we had a moment of peace. Eric slept softly, I wanted to stay by his side this time not letting him slip away. The doctor had told us that  they had no prediction of when he would wake up but I was fine with waiting

The royal advisor had pulled us aside from Eric's room. He seemed stressed and was sweating badly, now that prince Edward was in prison and the king was dead somebody had to take over the crown and handle the kingdom. Nobody knew about Eric's condition as we wanted to keep it to ourselves but the more people demanded to see him the harder it became

"Where is the prince? We must crown the next heir in order to keep peace" he whispered anxiously

I looked at Benedict as I had no idea what to do, Eric was in a coma and he wasn't waking up no time soon. The advisor looked at Benedict and I as he made it clear there was no time to delay

"Benedict will be the next king" I announced pushing the man forward

The advisor and Benedict looked at me shocked as I was confident in my words. They were acting dumb as there was nobody else left, Benedict would also make a great king... from the time I spent with Eric. The way he spoke about his brother gave me enough reason to trust that with him in charge everything would be okay

"I... I simply can't Odette. I'm a bastard to the crown" he stumbled to say but I wasn't believing any of that crap

"You are not a bastard Benedict. You have saved your brother numerous times from death and now saved the kingdom. They should be lucky to have you as their king" I replied

Benedict didn't keep eye contact with me but I could tell he was considering my idea, I wish he had more faith in himself because I truly believe he can make things right

"Prince Benedict, we need to know" the advisor added

"I'll do it... but the minute Eric is better I will hand over everything to him" were his last words before following the advisor down the hall
