It's been about two weeks since I even muttered Jennifer's name. I've avoided her in the house as much as I could besides dinner of course. Darrell has tried endlessly to apologize for what his mother has said. He even stopped calling me Remi. He's been calling me Remi since he found out that's what I used to prefer.
I wake up to a soft knock on my door. "Can I come in?" Darrell speaks softly since it's only 6am on a Saturday. "I guess, pipsqueak." I can hear his soft laugh through the door before he opens it, shutting the door softly behind him. "I was wondering if you'd like to hang out with me today." I sit up slowly and look at him with my resting bitch face as I'm half asleep.
"You want to spend time with me? Your mother would be disappointed." I snicker a bit, clearly trying to pick at him for being a mommy's boy. "She can suck it. She was way out of line and dad wasn't the only one who told her his mind." I was floored. Darrell stood up to his mom for once? He's a mommy's boy. He practically runs after her hand and foot. I let out a soft sigh before I smile softly, "Yea let's hangout today. A guys day."
He practically jumps in excitement before stopping and playing it cool. "Sweet. So what are we gonna do." I smile at his silly display of happiness. "I'm gonna call Cole and we're gonna sit in my room and play video games, eat snacks, and drink some soda." His eyes practically turn into saucers before he runs out muttering sometimes in excitement.
Jennifer doesn't let him have soda. She hates letting him have anything that isn't milk, water, or some fruit juice. He only ever gets to have soda and junk food when he's with me. I've tried to be nicer to him recently. His mother may be a bitch but he's a good kid. I give Cole a call and he's more than happy to come over.
By the time Darrell comes back into my room with a shit ton of games Cole is knocking on the front door. "Go let him in." Darrell's face lights up and he practically runs downstairs. I can hear Cole laughing and talking with Darrell as he rambles in excitement on the way up to my room. Cole adores Darrell and finds him to be rather sweet.
Cole had a little brother who had passed away from SIDS when Cole was about six years old. Ever since he was extremely happy around Darrell. Saw him as a little brother even when I told him to ignore Darrell. He always bring Darrell things he's not supposed to have. Even tried to give him a beer once. I beat his ass for it.
Darrell and Cole walk into my room with big smiles on their faces. "Dorks." Cole hits my arm for it as we laugh. "Movies, soda, and bad decisions?" Cole smirks. "Bad decisions?" He looks at Darrell with an oh shit face. "Yeah. Um. Drinking." I put my head in my hands.
"No bad decisions today." Cole nods before sitting down on my bed. Darrell throws in a scary movie as we all get comfortable. Cole's phone starts blowing up out of the blue. "Did you not tell her where you were going?" He sighs before shaking his head no. "You're gonna scare her one day. She's gonna think you wrapped your car around a tree for fun bro." He seems to get pissed off a bit before brushing it off.
He turns his phone on do not disturb before continuing to watch the movie with Darrell and I. My father walks in the room and Cole becomes a bit nervous as I nudge him. "What are you boys doing?" He smiles as he realizes Darrell is with us. "We're watching scary movies." He nods before speaking softly. "Well Jen just left so Darrell go crazy. If anything happens to him I'll kick your ass Ren." I smile and laugh a bit.
He smiles before he leaves the room. After a few movies I get a text from my father before he walks into my room with a few boxes of pizza. "Have fun boys. Don't stay up to late. Cole you're welcome to spend the night tonight if you'd like." He smiles at Cole as I nudge him softly since he was zoned out. "Thank you Mr. Black." My father laughs softly before he closes my bedroom door.
At about ten o'clock at night we switch from movies to video games while Cole steps out to call his parents. "Why is he so nervous around dad?" I laugh softly. "He's just scared of some men. His father isn't the best man, Dare." He nods softly as we continue our games.
Cole practically waltz into my room all happy. "Got the green light to spend the night." He smiles big as Darrell gets excited. "So you'll be here for breakfast?" We could hardly understand him as Cole laughs. "Yes bud. I'll be here for breakfast. It's the weekend so I'll probably spend a second night." Darrell can no longer hold in his excitement as he practically does a happy dance.
I shake my head and laugh as Cole sits next to me and takes the controller from my hands. "Kick his ass, Dare!" I say with a smile as I rub his head, messing up his hair. He flashes me a quick smile before going full gamer mode.
I'm focused on watching them play injustice when I hear a knock at the door. "Come in!" I yell before my door opens. "I'm heading to bed boys. Darrell be in bed in about an hour." He nods with a smile before going back to gaming. "Don't do anything stupid Ren. If you and Cole go out just remember to be safe ok?" I smile, "We will be safe pops."
With that he closed the door and went to bed. Darrell practically destroys Cole in injustice as I laugh. "No fair!" Cole yells as Darrell kicks his ass once again. "Maybe it's time for a break." I manage to get out in-between laughs. Cole looks at me with a slight glare before laughing himself. "Good game Darrell." He smiles and returns the gesture before yawning. The three of us have spent all day just watching movies, gaming, and hanging out.
"Looks like it's bedtime bud." Cole rubs his head. "I'm not even that tired though!" I raise my eyebrow. "Dad said you needed to be in bed within an hour. We've already let you stay up 45 minutes past what you were told, Dare." He sighs and slowly gets up. "Goodnight Ren. Goodnight Cole." We both wave goodbye as he walks out of my room, shutting the door softly behind him.
"Nova is your girlfriend Cole and my best friend. This isn't cool. You said you'd tell her by now." He sighs. "I will I promise. I'll tell her tomorrow."
