Monday morning Darrell wakes me up. "Hurry up before we're late." I groan before slowly getting up. "Okay. Okay. I'm awake." I get up slowly, feeling real groggy. I take a quick shower and make my way to my truck as Darrell is practically jumping with joy. The dork loves school.
We make it to school and Cole has his arm around Nova. I shoot him a look and he avoids meeting my eyes. As we reach our little group Darrell starts rambling about the hangout session we had this weekend. Nova smiled and happily listens to Darrell's endless rambling.
Nova loves children. She'd be a great mother. She's so loving and kind, a great woman overall. I wish Cole would tell her the truth. She doesn't deserve this. He has till the end of the week before I tell her for him.
We all head to class and I sit in my first period. Me and Nova share a good bit of classes so we practically hang out all day. Come lunch time me and Nova walk down to the usual table waiting for the boys to show up. We sit down as Darrell runs up behind Nova and swings his arms around her, hugging her softly.
She smiles and rubs his arm as he begins to ramble about some new found friends he's made. Cole sits in-between me and Nova as he looks at his phone. I check my phone to find messages from Sarah. I smile as Nova smirks, "Lovely lady Sarah I assume?" I smile and nod back at her.
Everyone thinks me and Sarah are dating with how much we talk. We're just really close friends who are a big support system for each other. "Soon enough y'all will be married." Cole smirks as Nova tries to toy with me. "I'm not her type." Nova rolls her eyes. "With how much you two talk it seems like you are definitely messing around at least." Cole's eyes shoot to me.
I roll my eyes. "Trust me I'm not her type." Nova laughs softly before Darrell starts talking her ear off all over again. I start to respond to Sarah as Cole gets up and heads to the bathroom. "Cole's been acting weird lately." I sigh softly before looking up to meet her eyes. "You know his situation Nova. It's hard for him at home right now."
She nods and begins to type on her phone as Darrell runs off to God knows where. I feel a hand slide across my back catching me off guard. I look up to find Cole being the culprit. He shoots me a quick smile before continuing to eat his lunch. I stare at him baffled as he never shows any sort of physical attention around Nova when it comes to me.
"Don't worry Ren. I know. He told me in second period." My jaw drops. "And?" I practically look as though I've seen a ghost. "And it's ok. We ended things but decided to play boyfriend and girlfriend in front of his parents like normal. I hope that's okay with you. Being his boyfriend and all." I look at Cole confused.
"Me and Cole aren't dating, Nova." She smirks. "Not yet." And with that the bell rings and I practically run to my next class. Did he tell her we were dating? Why would he tell her something like that? I sigh and brush it off so I can focus on my schooling.
Today sucks. Three pop quizzes that I know I've failed and an essay to finish by the end of the week. Just my luck. I may be great at writing essays but I am horrible when it comes to time management and getting them done on time.
English has never been my strong suit. I can hardly speak English properly, let alone read and write. My father finds it hilarious when I get caught on some words. I was homeschooled for a few years after my mother passed away. I guess my father thought spending more time with me wouldn't put me to far behind.
Boy was he wrong. I'm not horribly delayed when it comes to schooling but it is a bit more difficult for me than the rest. My stronger subjects are history and Gym. I know gym isn't technically a subject but the way I see it, if it's a class, it's a subject.
The end of the day rolls around and lucky for me I haven't bumped into Cole yet. Nova has been taunting me all day since lunch. She thinks my reaction was hilarious and claims I turned bright red at the notion of me and Cole being a couple.
We start to make our way to the front when I see someone who looks rather familiar leaning against my truck. "Who's that?" I look at Darrell, just as confused as him. "I don't know Dare." The four of us continue walking to my truck, all of us equally as confused.
The closer we get the more and more she starts to look familiar. It can't be. She's supposed to be hours away. In school herself. "Nova you've got a bit of drool rolling down your chin sweetie." Cole says softly. "Who is that fine woman?" Nova barely manages to say as she's to busy staring and focusing on keeping her composure.
The woman begins to walk towards us as I'm frozen in shock. How did she even get here? The woman smirks as she gets closer and closer. "You look like you've seen a ghost, Ren." The woman says softly as she smiles. "What are you doing here? I thought you weren't coming till this weekend?"
The woman chuckles softly before noticing Nova. Looking her up and down slowly before shooting her a wicked grin. "Going to introduce me lover boy or are you just gonna stand there with your jaw on the floor?" I wipe my face slowly.
"This is Cole, Nova, and Darrell." She winks at Nova as Nova's knees almost give out underneath her. "Guys. This is Sarah Reeves. One of my closest friends."
