“Amanda, don't overwork yourself!” Alyssa scolded, as I laid down, breathing hard, after doubling a cushion.
Can you belive it?
A cushion. And I was already panting.
“I need to practice. I need to get better at this. There must be a way around it, there has to be, maybe-if i-”
I groaned. There was nothing that was going to work. We've had centuries of people trying.
“I wish I could trade you one of my powers,” Alyssa said sadly. I shot up into the air, tiredness forgotten.
“No. Never, ever say that. You have these powers for a reason.”
“ So I can get looked for? So a town can ring the emergency alarm because of me?” Alyssa snapped, then her eyes widened. “I'm sorry… I didn't mean to shout…”
“It's completely fine,” I assured her. “ANYWAYS. Do you like your new cushion?” I waved it in front of her face, attempting to change the subject. She laughed.
“Yeah, I do,” She gently took it from my hands. Then, unexpectedly, she yelled
“PILLOW OR CUSHION FIGHT!” And downright smacked me in the face with it. After getting over my shock, I grinned.
“Oh, no you don't!” I gave out a pillow war battle cry, and seized a cushion.
And so the chaos began. After we had almost broken a cup, we carefully snuck the pillows away, and started doing our skincare.
“Are you thinking what I'm thinking?” Alyssa asked.
“Girl Spa Night?” I replied hopefully.
Alyssa nodded. “Girl Spa Night.”
We shook hands solemnly, squealed, then changed into our comfy nightgowns.
“I've got the hair stuff!!” I cried, after finally finding the hair products in my bag.
“And I, the skincare! Did you know there's a ton of self care stuff here?” I sprinted to that area faster than a cheetah. As soon as I saw what Alyssa was talking about, my jaw dropped. It was… beautiful.
Skincare, upon skincare, upon skincare.
Screw the prisoner part of this cottage, I wouldn’t want to leave anyways. We exchanged excited glances, and started doing each other's hair. I did a fishtail for Alyssa's gorgeous brown hair. She did a braided crown for my curly red hair. We continued with face masks, cucumbers for our eyes, and watching a movie. We proceeded to go to sleep, laughing and smiling, our worries gone. We slept in the same room, because we felt more... safe that way.
“Amanda?” Alyssa asked, all the happiness replace with a quiver of worry and fear.
“Yes?” I inquired.
“I don’t feel safe…”
“I'm sure it's fine to feel that way… but remember, we have a force field, and no one knows about this place except mom and dad, and possibly the government.”
“Yeah, but that's not really problem here.”
I stayed silent, trying to figure out what Alyssa was scared of.
I wondered if I should get a plushy, and instead decided on turning on the lights. The lights always made me feel safer.
I sat up, and so did my best friend.
“What's the problem, then?” I said gently. Alyssa stayed silent, and I was starting to freak out a little. It was then I could've sworn I heard something.
“I think someone's here…” She whispered.
