History is written by the victors.

I quite disagree with this statement to an extent, the core idea is that history has two sides. Now the main idea is that the losers would always be the villain of said story right? Then what of us? Imagine you're me for a moment, you were betrayed by your own nation, painted as a traitor, then had people seeking your head on a platter with nowhere to go. It is just fair that I would seek salvation in the enemy of my enemies. If I cannot defy, If I cannot cleanse my name, then I shall become what they wanted me to be. A Villain.

Not to everyone, no.

Matter of fact, the deciding factor about how something is categorized as 'good' or 'evil' is a matter of perspective. Try it like this, has any story ever be plainly a fight between good and evil? Or is it more complicated than that?

Now you see why I made this journal in the first place. Your opinion shall always be yours to decide, but I am presenting the mere fact that, despite my choices, would it be fair to call me a 'villain'? An 'antagonist'? Every living human would in their life, make numerous mistakes, yet these mistakes do not paint them as a bad guy, if you cared to look through their lenses, one may find a reasoning, to why they decided to act in such a way.

Now, I believe that you have grasped the idea behind this journal, I think it is fair if I could share to you my true story.

Let us set the stage. To sum it up, around 2 decades ago, a solar storm hit the earth, it's around the 20th century and I was still a young boy, around the age of 13. The solar storm disabled electrical infrastructures around the globe, causing mass panic. Cities drowned, governments experienced massive scale shutdowns. At the start of this global disaster, everything seemed civil, the government regulated food and shelter to those who lost their homes midst the malfunctions and overloads.

But the longer these blackouts went on, the more people became anxious.

Soon, panic broke out. people went rogue and raided stores for food, clothes and other things. Panic spread worldwide as news of supplies running low had only served to create chaos. What followed was a death toll reaching millions. People fiercely protecting their hoards, raids occurred among different groups, to put it lightly, it was chaos.

Yet as time passes and things settled, these survivors propose a ceasefire. slowly, these communities evolved to small colonies.

Then winter came around, food supplies are slowly draining, the small farms they have made couldn't produce enough food for the colonies. The only way out is to hunt the wilderness, they issued a group hunt, but their inexperience caused multiple accidents across the world. Not to mention the threat of hypothermia and other diseases, slowly culling the population.

Not long after, nature does its thing and turned abandoned towns back into forests, some that are too far from water source turned into deserts, the combination of both lack of nutrition on the ground and toxins spread from the use of pesticides have seeped into the ground, preventing natural plants to grow.

However, humanity still persists within these desolate lands and treacherous forests, taking to abandoned buildings and creating small communities. They survived with their knowledge on farming and basic hunting, some of them however, chose to live a nomadic life. As the saying goes; life finds a way.

Move forward to around a decade later, some of these survivors progressed from small colonies, and advance onto kingdoms or factions. As with every growing civilisation, having territory and power, greed would soon follow. These factions waged war with what remaining weapons they have against neighbouring countries, citizens to scatter for refugee, mixing up the nationality of every nation.
