Vintage, ornate doors greeted Teryn when she approached the vintage jewelry store with Megamind beside her. She reached for the doors, but Megamind caught her wrist just as her finger pads brushed the handle! She slightly glanced up at Megamind out the corner of her eye. He met her gaze with sad, green grass orbs. "Let me."
Sorrow filled Teryn's ears when Megamind told her to let him open the door! He needed to be the one to open the door in order to go through with returning the engagement ring!
Painfully clutching from reciprocating Megamind's hurt, Teryn's heart painfully throbbed against her chest while she let her hand fall to the side before taking a step back; Megamind moving where she previously stood. After taking in a deep breath, Megamind gripped the door handle of the ornate door and stepped inside the vintage shop with Teryn at his heels.
Slamming hard against Teryn's nose, a strong, musty scent of wool mixed with a slight hint of cigarette smoke blended with cleaning chemicals, air pollution, nasty car exhaust with cheap body care products and strong cleaning solvents, currently flowed on a wave of nonenal chemical compounds from oxidized lipid acid, caused Teryn's nose to wrinkle when the blended airflow wafted the unpleasant smell of elderly grandma up her sinuses, when she stepped over the threshold!
Teryn found Megamind already at the front counter with an awaiting look in his green eyes and a stretched out hand when she approached the counter. Instead of the front counter, Teryn approached Megamind and handed the ring box over to set the square item in his upturned palm. Her sad look met his pained one while she leaned a hip against the glass case.
Sauntering out of the back after the loud bell chime ceased in the shop, the jeweler smiles, but immediately replaces his smile with a strong look of concern when his eyes take in Megamind's upset green orbs. Concern laced his voice. "That's not a happy smile of a groom-to-be."
Pain flashed across Megamind's face! His numb tongue began working and his voice was barely above a whisper when he admitted, "I'm not getting married."
Knitting his eyebrows together, the jeweler's blue eyes bounced between Megamind and Teryn while pointing at either of them with his index finger, asking, "so you two aren't getting married?"
"No," both confirmed.
Teryn was quick with a following response. "No. I'm just helping Megamind return the ring." Her next words caught Megamind's attention. "Unfortunately, I'm not the one Megamind planned on marrying."
Shocked, Megamind's head snapped in Teryn's direction at her confession. "Though I wish I was." Did she really just say that?
Megamind silently watched Teryn for a minute when she walked off to go look at other pieces of jewelry. 'Did she seriously say that?' He thought while staring at her as she studied each piece. Those eyes of hers flicked to each necklace hanging from various hooks lining the wall. Teryn's fingers caressed the metal and the beadwork while moving from one intricate piece to the next.
However, what caught Megamind's attention the most, was the way Teryn's curiosity and fascination reflected between her sea foam green eyes and face! Those sea foam green eyes of hers flicked to each hanging handmade piece with awe and fascination, her head and feet simultaneously following her traveling line of sight as she slowly strolled down the row.
Catching the sight of the jeweler watching Teryn out of the corner of his eye, the jeweler watched her the way a father would watch his child. Did he know Teryn?
Turning back to the task at hand, Megamind slid the ring box across the clear, crystal glass counter before placing his palms flat against the cool glass top. All he could do now was wait for the jeweler to refund him his money.
