We walked into the lab, there were many glass containers and cells lining the walls and shelves some full of creatures, unnatural creatures some to horrible to explain. Coryo knocked on a jar with a creature in some sort of liquid.

"Mr. Snow. Ms. Dovecote. And Ms. (Y/l/n)." Dr. Gaul's voice came from closer to the end of the room. "Come and see my new babies."

I looked at Coryo and he looked back at me before we walked towards her.
Dr. Gaul lead us to the large cylinder tank filled with hundreds of snakes in shining colours of the rainbow. We followed her up some stairs to stand on a platform so we could see the top and look down inside if it was opened.

"Is there a point to the color?" Clemensia asked.

"There's a point to everything, Ms. Dovecote, or to nothing at all. Which brings me neatly to your proposal. I liked it. Who wrote it? Just you three?"

"That's right." Clemensia agreed. "We wrote it up at the library, and I printed it out at my apartment last night. Then I gave it to Coryo so he could drop it off this morning. As assigned."

Dr. Gaul looked to Coryo. "Is that how it happened?"

"I did drop it off this morning, yes." Coryo said.

"Unfortunately my assistant mistook it for trash this morning and lined the shelf of this very terrarium with it." Dr. Gaul pulled the door open. I looked down to the hundreds of snakes slithering around. And underneath the papers lay. "So, please, Ms. Dovecote, retrieve it for us, won't you? So we might all consider your ideas." Dr. Gaul reached in gently lifting out a snake.

"Of course. Do we just reach in through the trapdoor on the top?" Clemensia was obviously very nervous.

"Mr. Snow? Why don't you start?" Dr. Gaul suggested. I watched as Coryo reached in slowly.
"That's right. Move gently. Don't disrupt them."

Soon Coryo slowly pulled his arm out a piece of paper in his hand. The snake didn't even seem to notice him.

"Here I go, then." Clemensia looked like she was hiding her fear but she wasn't the best at it, like Coryo she slowly reached into the tank.

"My little predators are perfectly docile with those they can trust. So if they're used to your scent, if you've handled their food, for example, or they've inhaled the sweat of your palm on a page, they'll leave you alone. A new scent, however... you'd be on your own, little girl."

Just then I realized what Dr. Gaul was doing, but it was too late to warn Clemensia. Clemensia yanked her hand from the tank with a bloodcurdling scream.

"Clemmie, no! No!" Coryo yelled. I stepped back in shock. Clemensia stumbled back waving her arms that had a snake attached with its fangs sunken into her flesh. She fell off the platform hitting the ground below. A snake slithered away as she lay gasping. A scientist walked up injected Clemensia very calmly with what I hoped was antidote or something.

"You asked about the colours, Ms. Dovecote? I want my enemies to see a rainbow of destruction engulfing the world. I'm not above using spectacle to create a little terror. A strategy hopefully both your classmates here articulated very well in their proposal." Dr. Gaul said with no remorse for what just happened.
The scientist finished and two Peacekeepers started to drag her body away.

"Will she die?" Coryo asked.

"The pleasure in breaking ground in one's research is one gets to find out. Now, Ms. (Y/l/n), it is your turn to retrieve your proposal, unless you too didn't write it?"

"Okay." I take a breath, and stood in front of the opening. I mean I touched and wrote on the paper, I shouldn't be worried, and yet I still was. Slowly I reached into the tank. Practically holding my breath as a snake brushed my skin. Finally my fingers find a grip on a paper slowly I pull my arm back out paper in my fingers. I sigh relieved to make it out unharmed by a snake. I looked to Dr. Gaul.

"Wonderful." She smiled. "They're good, your suggestions. I'm going to recommend my team implement as many as possible tomorrow. You two better keep Ms. Dovecote's fate between us." Dr. Gaul said. "I don't think her mother would be happy to learn how she caught this sudden... flu. Now you two run along, you have an arena to promote and it's time for my milk and crackers."
