I sat down in the lunch room beside Coryo, I wasn't planning on eating myself, I was planning on sneaking food to Treech and if I get enough to Lamina too because I doubt Pliny would bother.

Just as Coryo slipped some food off his tray and into his napkin on his lap Sejanus came placing his tray on the other side of me and across from Coryo.

"You trying to fatten that poor girl up so you can finally start taking bets?" Sejanus did across from Coryo.

"You think they'll give those kids a scrap if we don't give them a reason to do it?" Coryo looked up at Sejanus. "How do you think your tribute will have a chance if he can't eat?"

"Sejanus, they won't listen if we make it sound like care, they'll only listen if it sounds like we care about the Games, not the tributes." I say.

Sejanus sat down, "He was my classmate. Back in 2."

"Oh, I'm sorry, that bad luck." I say, as I put more food in my napkin, I already have more food hidden than Coryo.

"She's right, it's not your fault it's him." Coryo said.

"See, I know. I'm so blameless, I'm choking on it. My father bought him for me, you know, at the Reaping, just so he could show me that I could never go back to 2. But being Capital is going to kill me."

"So do something about it." Coryo said placing more food in his napkin.

"Quite the rebel." Sejanus smiled a bit.

"Oh, yeah. I'm bad news." Coryo said.

The three of us left walking to the zoo towards the area where the tributes were. A couple other mentions were there talking with their tributes. There were also the groups of citizens observing most at more of a distance and Peacekeepers.

"Marcus. Hey." Sejanus called. "It's me. Marcus, look." Sejanus took out a sandwich reaching through the bars but Marcus only looked. "Here, I got some food for you. Here... Come on. Marcus."
I felt bad for Sejanus, he was trying hard but one thing was how he was calling was similar to someone talking to a pet not another human being.

I walked to the cage, Coryo separated to go to Lucy Gray. I saw Treech sitting on a rock with Lamina.

I waited for Treech to look in my direction before giving him a smile. He looked at Lamina before standing up.

"She can come too." I say.

Treech went back to Lamina, she got off the rock and followed behind Treech.
I sat down on the ground as I pulled out two napkins. Reaching through I handed them both to Treech. He opened one up seeing the food and handed the other to Lamina, he said something and she walked back to the rock where they were both previously sitting and began to eat. Treech looked back at me because lowering himself and sitting across from me.

Treech didn't exactly eat with manners but I wasn't bothered, I would probably eat the same if I was starving. I waited till he was done to speak.

"I'm sorry I wasn't able to get water. How are you and Lamina holding up?"

Treech looked back at his District partner. "She's still frightened."

"And you?"

He looked at me, "I'm doing better than her."

"I have some possible good news though, I have a chance that I could find ways for people to send gifts in the arena, food, water."

"Why are you kind to me? And Lamina?" Treech asked. I give him a confused look. "I heard the guards say you get money if I win, so is this an act?"

"The guards aren't lying about the money if you win, but I'm gonna be honest. I don't care about winning, it would be nice, but what is more important to me is you surviving. Think about it, if I only cared about you winning why would I feed Lamina, she's not my tributes, you are."

"I guess you're right on that."

I look to the side where Arachne was taunting her tribute with a bottle. She wasn't too far away from where I sat with Treech.

"Can you take it?" Arachne mocked pulling the bottle back as Brandy, the girl from District 10 reached for it. "Come on, try harder than that."

I looked back at Treech, "But I do believe you have a good chance at winning, it's sad but true lots of the other tributes aren't in the best conditions. Do you have any skills, any weapons you might be good with? You don't have to tell me just, know your own skills and weaknesses. I'm just here to help get you out." I study his face. "I'm wondering, why did you pull me back in the truck? I'd say you saved me, unless you'd call it something else?"

"You said you were my mentor, if you're crazy enough to run into the back of a truck with a bunch of angry kids, I thought you might actually want to help me win. And I better not let the others beat you to death like they were about to do to your friend." Treech answered, I noticed him looking at my face.

I don't know what but deep down I feel something for this boy, the way he pulled me back, the way we just stared at each other when we tumbled out of the truck, the way he's looking after his District partner, Lamina. I don't know what I'm feeling, I haven't felt it before, it's new but I don't hate it. But at the moment I just don't wanna see this boy die.

"One more time." I heard Arachne tease.

"I'm not playing this game." Brandy groaned.

"I'm not leaving yet, but next time I visit I'll try to bring you a hopefully Lamina some water." I say trying to ignore the cruelness of Arachne.

"Come on." Arachne encouraged.

"You shut up." Brandy growled.

"That would be good." Treech looks back at Lamina, she had finished her food as well.

"Give me something, I've been sitting here for 15 minutes!" Arachne smiled.
Treech looked over at her.

"You were right about the boy on the truck, Coryo, he's my friend, but that girl, she's unpleasant to be in the same room with, I feel bad for Brandy getting her as a mentor." I sigh.

"She's really testing Brandy's patience though, I'd be more careful if I was her." Treech looked back at me.

"She takes pride in the suffering of people especially people from the Districts. But back to you, from what I've seen, you're a good man, and I'm gonna do everything I can to get you out of the arena alive. I don't see you as less than me, I would have honestly liked to have met you in different circumstances." I tell him.

"Would have been nice to get to know you as well." Treech agreed and I smiled.

I jumped when loud screaming from two girls filled the air, one was a scream of anger, that came from Brandy and the other was a scream from fear that came from Arachne.

Treech stood quickly up and walked in front of the rock Lamina was sitting on behind Brandy who was now holding Arachne up to the bars.
