Chipped

You woke up hours before Maya and Toby. Bright and early at 4:00 a.m, you got into your medic outfit and walked towards the golden guard's "healing den". When you finally reach the hallway to the den, you see his cape turn the corner at the end of the hall. Does he have to wake up this early everyday? You wonder.

You walk into the den and open drawers and cupboards, trying to get a feel for the space. A note is left on the counter directed to you. "Hello Y/n. Your job is now to tend to the golden guard after he gets back from missions, as the regular medical ward is too crowded and he deserves first priority. You understand."

You think it's stupid he gets first priority. Some witch could be bleeding out but you have to put a bandaid on his cut knee before helping them. It was bull. But the raise was nice.

You wait hours before Hunter came back. At first, nothing seems out of the ordinary. Until you see a chip in his mask on his left eye, revealing a hint of magenta through all the gold. He sits on the table without saying anything. What do you even do? He doesn't look hurt. Are you supposed to replace his mask? Is that part of your job?

"Are you hurt?" You finally break the silence. He hesitates but nods his head. He takes his mask off and where the chip was, there is a gash two inches long next to his eye. A few centimeters over and he'd only need one eye hole in his mask.

"You got lucky." You open a cabinet with cleaning supplies to cleanse the wound. "You could be one eyed Pete if that got any closer to your eye." He stays silent. You wet a cloth and clean the blood off his face. It looks like he was crying blood. You use an alcohol wipe and he takes a deep breath. You weren't aware he could feel pain.

"Oh. Sorry. This will sting a little." He rolled his eyes. "Thanks for the early warning"

It's only your second day and he's already getting on your nerves. "Why'd you run away last night? Have some extremely important mission to do or something?"

He looks away. "No."

A/N: THIS IS WHERE IT STOPS? I COULDN'T EVEN FINISH A CHAPTER? Alright, I guess I'll see what I can do...

You decide not to push the matter. "So, what did you do this time?" He glares at you, as if you just insulted him. You wince mentally.

Great. Just as I thought we were becoming friends...

"Don't worry about it." You nod. "Sorry. Didn't mean to pry." He sighs and looks down. "No, I'm sorry. I'm being a bitch"

He wasn't wrong, but that's not your place to say.

"Do you want to talk about it? Or..."
"I just really want this cut dealt with right now"

You can take a hint. You continue healing his wound until it's an invisible seam next to his eye. "There. All better."

"Thanks." He says gruffly before putting his mask back on, the chip still showing his magenta eye. And although he'd never admit it, you could tell he was crying. He swiftly exits the room, leaving you to clean up.

Why was he crying? What happened to him?
~~~
Most days, you had nothing to do. You reorganize your room, then the healing den, then decide you liked it better before and put it back the way it was. You wanted to go back to the medic center. To help those in need. But you had to stay here. You weren't allowed to leave.
Days were long and boring. You saw him maybe twice a day? Not very exciting. Ever since you two went out together, he's been acting different. He used to be so awkward and lighthearted. Now he was just cold. He never payed you any mind. Just saw you as his medic. Great. Some days, he strikes up conversation, but most days he doesn't. His eye bags seem larger than usual and he's stopped taking his mask off around you, as if creating a barrier.
