A re-occuring guest

A lot of patients have come in with flesh eating fairy bites recently. That's usually a strong indicator that spring is rolling around. That's when all the fairies come out of hibernation.
One of your usual clients, Saphire, has at least five new fairy bites every day. (That girl needs to get some repellent or something)

You have a few more clients, some stabbed, some beaten up, some so bloody you'd think their skin was naturally bright red at first glance. Then, at the end of your shift, the Golden Guard walks in. Just as you were packing up your stuff to leave.

They walked right by you, which gave you a better look at their height. You're 5'5" so they looked to be around 5'7". They only walked by you briefly but you could have sworn you made eye contact. You couldn't tell through their mask. You don't have that problem. Medics don't have to wear masks. So even if they weren't looking at you, they definitely saw you looking at them.

They spoke to the head nurse, said something about their head hurting every time they moved it. They said the pain started shortly after getting pushed off the roof of a building while trying to stop someone from robbing a museum. You started packing your stuff slower to eavesdrop on their conversation. The staff directed him to a separate room so you only heard bits and pieces of their conversation.

As the Golden Guard walked out, around 10 minutes later, all you could hear were the medics reassuring them that they would be fine, and it was just a bump on the head. They also went out their way to tell them what COULD have happened. Saying things like: "You were a neck bend away from being dead." And "You're lucky you didn't fall from any higher!" You don't know what kind of reaction your coworkers were expecting, but they seemed disappointed when all the Golden Guard said was "I'll be sure to count my blessings."

As they walked out, you couldn't see their face but you could most definitely see them staring.

Right. At. You.

~~~
Ever since the awkward-three-second-eye-contact-with-the-actual-golden-guard situation happened, you've been seeing them coming in here a lot more often.
You've learned a lot of new things about them just from snip bits of conversations.
You learned that he is, in fact, a guy.
You also learned that he doesn't talk much.
For example: while you were helping Sapphire with her flesh eating fairy bites, he came in and sat on the table next to you.
"Someone will be with you in a moment sir" you said as you bowed your head. He just did a silent nod to acknowledge your words.
When you asked him your normal questions, like you would any other patient, he just nodded, shook his head, or gave plain answers like: "I don't think about that kind of stuff." Or "Those topics bore me".
Today, he did his normal routine of sitting down and waiting for someone.
After a moment, he started looking around in confusion. You understood why he was confused. It was taking much longer for him to get service than usual, seeing as he would have three nurses on him for a headache by now on a normal day.
Today was super busy though. There was a case of "The common mold" spreading rapidly around the castle, taking out entire scout troops for weeks at a time.
"Should you be here?" You asked.
"Why shouldn't I be?" He asked a question instead of answering yours. He didn't like answering questions to those below him.
"There's a lot of sick people here, does Emperor Belos want his right hand man to be sick with the common mold?"
"Hmm." In that one noise he made he sounded shocked that you said something reasonable, as if he wasn't aware you could form proper thoughts.
Crazy how voices can carry so much emotion.
There were so many sick people in the medic center. Word got up to the Emperor, and he forced the golden guard to stop going for the fear of him falling ill.
A few weeks later, Emperor Belos had the bright idea to give the Golden Guard his own personal "healing den".
There would be one healer always on duty and always keeping an eye on the golden guard while in the castle walls.
If needed, this one person could pull 1-4 medics out of the healing center to assist the Golden Guard.
Your co-worker, Veronica, became his personal healer. You weren't surprised. She was one of the best healers there was. Sure, she was getting up there in age, but that didn't make her any less capable.
You wouldn't see the Golden Guard very often after that.
One day, while you were out shopping, you saw him chasing after some small white creature that you forgot the name of. (how unprofessional of you, you know)
He caught the thing in his hands right before it ran into a mouse hole.
The thing started yelling about conspiracy theories and how the world is ending under the Emperors command.
He just sighed, got on his staff, and flew away.
He flew through the air swiftly, gliding like a knife cutting paper. Like it was natural to him. It was kinda... impressive?
Last time you tried flying on a staff, you ended up crash landing in a tree.
You went back to the castle, happy with your purchases from the day.
Emperor Belos later held a meeting about his nephews new "healing den".
He stated that Veronica disobeyed his word and interrupted the Titan's plans, elaborating no further.
She was dealt with accordingly.
Therefore, there was a new job opening.
The golden guard, standing to the emperor's right, spoke aloud: "My uncle will pick whoever is the most trustworthy, and the most talented at their craft."
He always sounded more confident when speaking to a group of people or to one person when others are around. He is apparently super talkative, but he rarely ever speaks to you.
Whispers disbursed through the room
What does he mean "most talented at their craft"? Whoever can heal someone better? Faster? Kinder? What does it mean?
"Good luck!" He looked your way And for some reason your face went warm.
You guess you better start putting a show on if you want that promotion. They pay you 5x what you're getting payed currently.
The Emperor is such a generous man.
Veronica should have seen that. She was blinded by her own opinions and therefore lost her job...
And her freedom...
And the ability to see her family...
That's not the Emperor's fault though. He was doing as Titan planned, being the closest thing you have to a living God on the isles.
Veronica has only herself to blame.
I just wanted to point out that this is an alternate universe, so I'm sorry if Hunter acts differently to the show.
