Forty years in the past

Hamato Yoshi glanced around, the soft sobbing of someone coming from behind the tree.

"Oroku Saki?" He asked, peeking behind the trunk. "F-father thinks I'm a disappointment." His brother sobbed.

"That's not true! Mother and I think you're amazing, because you are!" Yoshi sat next to Saki, wrapping him in a hug.

"I love you." He said. "So do I," his brother responded. They sat in silence, enjoying the birds chirping in the sun.

"Saki?" Yoshi said after a moment. "Yeah?" He asked. They looked each other in the eyes.

"Promise me, that no matter what happens, whatever you're sad about, whether we're alive or dead, you'll come see me here at the cherry tree." Yoshi said.

Saki smiled, small petals falling onto the grass around them.

"I promise. More than that, I'll be waiting for you here after death."

They smiled at each other, and rested their heads together. They'd see each other at the cherry tree, no matter where they were. They just had to wait for the sun.
