Memories 1

A bright flash. A god appears. Apollo, god of the sun, stood on a sidewalk outside a house looking inside. He was dressed casually with slacks and a t-shirt that said "I’m Hot". He just stood there for several minutes staring at the house. Something had called him there. No not quite called, he amended the thought. He felt compelled to come to this place. But for what? He scratched his head puzzling over the normal seeming house. It looked no different than its neighbors after all.

By chance, the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy passed by and felt the presence of the sun god near her. She wondered what it was about because he was supposed to drive the sun chariot during the day. Even if he didn't, he wasn't the sort to look for mortals for pleasure during the day since he had to split himself into two: one to drive the chariot and one to have pleasure with mortals. By splitting himself into two, a part of his mind was on something else and couldn't enjoy what he was -ugh Athena shuddered at the thought of him and his antics with mortals. There was a reason she was a virgin goddess.

So he wasn't here for pleasure so what was he here for? The wisdom part of her brain processed this all in a second and the strategic part of her brain assessed the way he stood. It could be said that he was waiting for someone if he wasn't staring so earnestly at a house with - Athena frowned- a closed door.
Making a decision, she flashed herself down there next to him. He didn't turn around but simply said "What brings you here?" in an absentminded voice.
Athena was about to reply when a girl came running into the garden beside the house laughing happily. Apollo shifted his attention to the girl and suddenly he glowed green.

But instead of the prophecy that Athena had expected, an image appeared in her mind. It showed a girl standing in the remnants of a battlefield with a sword stained with blood, bodies littering the floor around her and most importantly Olympus, a smouldering ruin just ahead of her. As she watched, the girl took out a pendant glowing bright purple, caressed it and surveyed the ruins around her, seemingly pleased about something. Just when Athena wanted to see more, the image vanished.

She turned to Apollo and asked what that image meant. Apollo was puzzled wondering what she meant. He said that there was no image and wondered whether her wisdom was getting too much for her. He was unfortunate enough to say that out loud which led to Athena pestering him non stop about saying that she was not insane and would he stop hinting she was and yes the image that she saw was real was he lying? Several minutes later, Apollo lost patience and said no he had not seen an image and no he was not lying because he could not lie at all.
" Really, for a goddess of wisdom, Athena, sometimes you are undeniably stupid".

Athena lost it. She screamed at Apollo who hurriedly made them invisible to mortals lest the wonder why a maniac was screaming her head off in the otherwise peaceful street. After 2 more seconds of Athena screaming at him saying she was the wisdom goddess and never wrong, he flashed away. He no longer felt the compelling feeling to be here anymore anyway.
It drove Athena crazy. She couldn't figure it out. And that was not normal. She was the goddess of wisdom! She should be able to figure it out! She took a deep breath and stopped pacing the library in her temple on Olympus. The library was a wonder and contained books and books of knowledge from ancient Greece to how to fry an omelette. Answers to many questions could be found here but the answer to her question eluded her and her library. Although it was restricted, the library had provided wisdom for the future. After all, it was through a book that she had learnt: to prevent something from happening, you should not give it a chance to happen at all. She had advised her father on the oath of the big three because of that. So far it seemed to be working and after several decades, the great prophecy still had not happened. But that was besides the point. Well, she sighed, time to pay another visit to that house and the girl.
