Denzel
I was finally home from the hospital, after having to stay an extra week because my wound had got infected. Mr. Jackson had to stay a little longer because he needed to go through some physical therapy for walking. Rebbie and Mrs. Jackson was with him almost everyday at the facility they transferred him to. Janet would only go when Gil was able to sit here with me. I've told her that I can handle being by myself, but she didn't want to risk it."Okay, baby." She came into the room with a tray. "Here's some lunch for you." She sat it down.
"Janet, you know I can get up and get myself food and stuff, right?"
"Can and should are two different words. The doctor wants you to keep your behind in the bed for the full two weeks and you still have to take it easy for another month. We can't risk you getting an infection. Plus you have to follow a specific diet to keep your body strong enough to help your liver heal up. So no, you're not making food. Now eat." I started eating the food and honestly it was good. Let me keep my mouth shut.
"Baby, I ain't know you could cook like this." She smiled.
"Yeah, I like to cook. I just don't get to do it often." She grabbed two pill bottles. "Here's your medicine." I took it and went back to eating. "Oh." She held her stomach.
"What's wrong? You okay?" I went to get up.
"I'm fine. Sit down."
"You sure?"
"Yes, I'm just nauseous."
"Awww, pooh."
"I know." She pouted.
"Come here." I sat the tray next to me and pulled her over. I gently rubbed her stomach. "Is that better?"
"Yeah. This is harder than with Eissa. I didn't feel these symptoms until later on." She groaned.
"Here, come on." I moved over and let her lay on my chest.
"Am I hurting you?"
"No, I'm fine. I want to make sure you're okay. You've been taking care of me like you're not pregnant."
"I know. I just want to make sure you're good."
"That's the same for me. I need to make sure you're good."
"Thank you, baby." I kissed her head.
"It's my job." She sighed and snuggled into me more.
"What should we name our daughter?"
"You think it's a girl?"
"I'm sure it is."
"Hmmm." I felt like messing with her. "Denzela." She sat up and looked at me.
"Don't play with me." I pulled her back down.
"Okay. Okay. How about Aneva or Jazlin."
"Those are pretty. How'd you come up with those?"
"I don't know, they've just always sounded nice."
"Well, I like it. Jazlin Aneva Chisholm."
"It should be like Aneva Jo or something."
"Why?"
"Because you're Damita Jo."
"Oh. Jazlin Aneva Jo Chislom. Hmmm. Maybe it has to grow on me." She laughed. We laid in silence a little longer before her phone started ringing. I grabbed it and looked at it.
"Who's Sara?" She sat up and grabbed the phone.
"Hello?" She put it on speaker.
"Janet, how could you?! After everything this family has done for you!" The woman sounded angry.
"What are you talking about?"
"You put my baby in prison. I knew you were low but I didn't think this low."
"Your son went to prison because he beat the crap out of me and almost kill me."
"Oh please, you're overreacting. You two got into a few arguments and you call that abuse?"
"He locked me in an outdoor cage for hours and beat me until I was unrecognizable."
"Stop with these lies. You are a horrible person to keep my son from his child. We're coming to get him to get him from your toxic mindset."
"Sara, you're not coming to take my child." She hung up. Janet sighed.
"Was that Wissam's mom?"
"Yes." She sighed. "She's always been so overprotective of him. She believes anything he tells her." Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Janet got up. I got out of the bed and followed her. I was only supposed to be up to use the restroom, but this was necessary. I sat on the bench she had near the door as she looked through the peephole. "Are you kidding me?"
"Sir, you can't be here." I heard Joey's voice as Janet opened the door.
"I can go here if I want. My grandson is here."
"Saleh, what are you doing here?"
"I'm here for my grandson. Move." He pushed Janet out of the way and came in.
"You have to go." Joey came in and grabbed him.
"Leave."
"I'm not leaving without my grandson."
"He's not even here." The man looked at Janet with anger.
"What?!"
"He's not here. He's with my mother."
"What type of mother are you? To leave your son with some random person."
"She's not random she's my mother and she...."
"I'll get him myself." He pushed Janet, causing her to hit the end table and fall to the floor. I immediately grabbed a vase and threw it at the man's head. He fell right into Joey's grasp.
"D, call the police." I took my phone out and called immediately. The apartment security had come up and detained Wissam's dad while Joey and I checked on Janet. She had not gotten up yet. "Janet." Joey shook her and she groaned before curling up in the fetal position.
"Joey, call an ambulance."
