TW: Needle, Sam, and a knife (Let me know if I missed any!)

——————

Of course as soon as he made a friend they turned out to be a traitor.

Of course.

Grian had met Sam when he found Sam running through the portal hub. Sam had said that he had just escaped from hunters and needed a place to hide. So naturally, he had helped a fellow hybrid out and brought same to his server.

Boy did he regret it.

They had lived together for only three months but he already trusted Sam with his life. Sam seemed so innocent and happy as they worked and laughed together. But that changed the day Grian saw the hunters.

See, hunters are the word for people who hunt and capture hybrids to sell at an auction to labs if you were a rare hybrid or just unlucky, to rich players that just needed entertainment, or if you were incredibly lucky, you might end up on a hybrid server. Hybrids were treated like animals, and the rarer hybrids had been sought after for so long that that some, like Avians and Draconi, were almost gone.

So obviously a problem for him as he was one of the last remaining Avians.

Especially him because instead of the average clawed feet and feathers on their arms, he had wings.

Giant, parrot wings.

Yeah. Problem.

He soared above the hunters, flipping through several stages of panic. If he got caught, he would most definitely be sold to a lab because of his wings. Sam...  Sam might be sold to a rich player, as he was a bunny hybrid. Grian shuddered at the thought of a lab. There were horrible tales told about what happened to hybrids in labs. Torture. Experiments. He turned around and sprinted back to their house. Grian landed at the doorway of their simple wooden house before proceeding to slam the door open and rush inside. Sam looked up startled from crafting something.

"Gree-on? Are you ok? You look like you saw the void." Sam asked.

He gasped for breath before responding, "H-hunters! Here in the world! We have to go now!"

That was when everything fell apart.

Sam growled in annoyance.

"Those idiots! They were supposed to stay hidden!"

Grian stumbled back. "W-what are you talking about?" He said.

Sam smiled.

An evil, twisted smile.

He shuddered at the smile.

"It means that I've been playing you to get you close to the hunters, Gree-on."

Sam lunged forwards and slammed him into the wall. Grian gasped in pain as his wings were pushed unnaturally to the sides. He was about to push Sam away when he felt the cold touch of steel at his throat. Sam had a knife.

"Alright Gree-on." He sang cheerfully.

"Here's what we're going to do so you don't get stabbed!" Grian glanced at Sam, trembling in fear.

Sam smirked and said "You're not going to resist me until the hunters show up. Is that clear?"

He stood still frozen in place.

Suddenly Grian felt a throb of pain at his throat. It was light but still intimidating.

"I said. Is. That. Clear?" He hissed slowly.

The Avian nodded fearfully.

"Good boy, Gree-on." He said as he lightened the pressure on Grians throat. Quickly, he whipped him around and grabbed Grian's arms dragging them together underneath his wings before tying them tight with a harsh rope. He kicked him in the back of his knees forcing him down to a kneeling position. Grian felt the blade again directly against the back of his throat while choking back sobs, trying not to give up hope yet.

He didn't know how long they spent there. It felt like hours to him or maybe it was just a couple of minutes. He didn't know. We sat there until Grian heard footsteps outside the house. He felt a shiver run down his spine as the door creaked open to reveal four players.

He could hear the smile in Sam's voice as he said, "There. You wanted an Avian, I got you an Avian. I need my payment now and then you can take it and go on your merry way."

One of the players stepped forward with a stack of diamonds in his hand.

"There you go, hybrid. Pleasure doing business with you." He said, spitting the word hybrid like a curse. Sam stepped forward and snatched the diamonds as one of the hunters stepped forward with-

Grian shrank back in fear.

The hunter was holding a needle and an iron collar.

The third hunter stepped around him and grabbed his hair, yanking his head back. Grian let out a cry of pain, but the hunter just pulled his head back harder. The hunter with the needle and collar stepped forward and closed the collar around his neck. They then took out a padlock and slid it into a clip at the back.

Grian heard it close with an ominous click.

At this point he couldn't hold it back much longer and tears started rolling down his face. The hunters didn't acknowledge it and the one with the needle pricked.

Grian felt the last bit of hope drain away as he lost consciousness.
