Sir Rinald walked into his quarters, taking off his helmet.

His yellow eyes narrowed as he sighed, his wooden skin warping as his expression changed.

His mouth was invisible unless he spoke, the inside of his mouth glowing yellow, his lack of ears made him look like an elemental.

He took off his armour, putting on his custom clothing.

He sat in his chair, everything in his quarters having to be custom made.

His 'hair' was a magical glowing energy, matching his eyes.

A sudden knock at his door made him get up, opening the door.

The head of the royal knights stood there, Sir Dreken.

"Dad!"

Rinald picked him up, hugging the man.

Dreken laughed, patting his son's arms.

"Hey, I missed you too."

Rinald set down his Dad, looking him over.

His grey streaked brown hair was to his shoulders, his stubble prominent.

He was wearing his work uniform, his armour, a dark steel suit of the traditional knights armour.

"How are you, kid?"

Rinald sat down on the floor in front of his Dad, smiling.

"Pretty good. Stressed a lot, but that's normal.
I think I'm finally starting to heal my friendship with Gabriel."

Dreken sighed, looking uncomfortable.
"I actually wanted to talk to you about that.
Your station is... Changing."

Rinald blinked.

"What?"

Dreken held out his hands.
"Now, you're still going to be guarding Gabriel, don't get me wrong.
But...you will also need to guard Lady Lillian."

Rinald blinked harder.
"Who is that?"

************

Gabriel hung his head as he read the letter sealed by his father's ring that was left on his bed.

So this was what the meeting was about.

He was betrothed to Lady Lillian of the Dronn kingdom.

They were to be wed the first of next month.

4 weeks away.

Gabriel laid back on his bed, his satin night gown falling around him.

He started crying silently, tears rolling down his face as he numbly stared at the ceiling.

He knew arranged marriages were still practiced.
But he never thought his father would do it to him.

He had never thought about marriage.
Ever.

And now he was being forced into it.
And his father was going to expect an heir.
Kids? He never thought about having kids.
Maybe adoption, but never making them.

He remained staring at the ceiling even as the night passed.

By the time he fell asleep the sun was already up.

His servant came into the room, waking him a mere hour after he fell asleep.

He looked horrible.
He got dressed, leaving his quarters, Sir Rinald already waiting outside.

The knight looked down at the Prince in complete silence as they walked to the throne room.

They entered the room, Lady Lillian standing next to King Jinathik.
