As they climbed the hill, Gabriel felt his heart pound and tears flick at his eyes.
What if he ruined his relationship with his lifelong best friend?
He would be the fool of all fools.

He turned as he crested the hill, looking down at Rinald, making the knight pause.

He choked up as the sun set behind him, the wind blowing his coat tails and hair in the wind.

Tears rolled down his face, as he choked, softly smiling.
"I know what I said last night was reckless.
I know that.
But talking to Lillian made me realize I DO love you. More than a friend.
I truly do.
I hope this doesn't ruin our friendship.
And if it does, I won't blame you.
If you need to cut me off, please, live a good life. Please."

He choked as he said this, sadly laughing.

Sir Rinald slowly reached up, taking off his helmet, setting it on the hillside.

He looked up at Gabriel, smiling.

Gabriel choked, smiling.
"I missed your face, my friend."

Rinald walked up the hill, kneeling in front of Gabriel.
He gently took his hand, holding it in both of his.
He leaned forward, staring into his eyes.

"I have been by your side for years. Our whole lives. Being your guard has been my greatest honor.
But I will admit.
The time I've spent with you lately...
I do think I care for you.
....more than a friend. I...I..."

Rinald leaned forward slowly.
Gabriel met him in the middle, closing his eyes.

The kissed, Rinald putting a hand on his lower back, pulling him closer, as they kissed.

Gabriel softly rested his hands on either side of Rinald's face, the kiss soft and prolonged.

They drew away, looking into each other's eyes.

Gabriel smiled shyly, still holding his face close to his guards.
"W-wow."

Riland smiled, taking one of Gabriel's hands off his face to hold it in his hand.

"Yeah. Wow."

Gabriel blushed, laughing.
"This feels nice. Really nice."

Riland stood, picking Gabriel up in his arms.

He put his helmet back on, sitting under the tree, with the Prince in his arms.

Gabriel snuggled to him, laying his head against his chest.
He sighed contentedly, smiling.
"I love you."

Riland held him to him, rubbing his back.

"I love you too."

Two hours later, Gabriel woke up slowly, finding himself in his bed at the palace.
He rubbed his eyes, looking around.

It was dark out now.
Sir Rinald must have carried him home.

***********

King Jinathik crossed his arms, looking over Sir Rinald.

"...As a knight of the royal guard, you should have brought your Prince home before the sun fully set."

Sir Rinald was kneeling, helm facing the ground.

"I am sorry, my Lord. It will not happen again."

King Jinathik crossed his arms, standing from his throne.

**************

Gabriel tiredly walked through the halls, hearing his father's angry voice ring through the palace.
