THE MOCKINGJAY
Eleven | District Thirteen
•••

FLEUR HAD DEVELOPED A SENSE OF KNOWING WHEN KATNISS HAD ESCAPED HER ROOM. OR MAYBE SHE WAS SIMPLY FAR TOO OBSERVANT. When she sat in her hospital bed which had a shortage of visitors, she'd watch as the nurses ran to find the other victor.

Each time, Fleur would disconnect herself from her own machines as she made her way through the halls and eventually the vents of District Thirteen as she'd follow the nurses to locate Katniss.

"Excuse me," Fleur says, causing the nurse to jump as she shines a flashlight in Fleur's direction. Fleur offers her a gentle and unassuming smile, but the woman doesn't seem convinced by it, "I think she may feel more at ease speaking to me."

"Neither of you are supposed to be here," the nurse states.

"So then you'd better let me speak to her so we can get back to our rooms then," Fleur suggests and the nurse obviously doesn't want to do that, but she hands Fleur the flashlight, but she rejects it as she passes the nurse and walks through the vent.

"Katniss?" Fleur calls out softly.

"Fleur?" Katniss says her voice cracking as she calls out her name.

"Yeah," Fleur responds with a small smile, "It's me."

She can see in the faint darkness as something moves as she knows it's Katniss. She makes her way over to her and she sits down beside her, leaning her head against the pipes. She can't see much but she can see Katniss's grey eyes looking at her.

"Nightmare?" Fleur asks softly.

"Yeah," Katniss confesses as she looks away from Fleur as though she's ashamed.

"I have them too," Fleur admits, "Of my parents. Of Glimmer. Of Cashmere. Of Johanna. You're worried about Peeta right?"

"Yeah," Katniss admits.

Fleur nods her head, her stomach twisting as she thinks of the things that Snow could be doing to the people that they care about. They'd taken Annie as well as a way to punish Finnick. The three victors all had someone to worry about. Someone that Snow was torturing because of their actions, and it had done nothing but intensify their guilt.

However, Katniss's may have been worse since Snow had completely blown District Twelve off the map after what had happened in the games. Only a few survivors that Gale, Katniss's childhood friend, and some other miners, had rescued had made it out. But other than that an entire District of people ceased to exist and Fleur couldn't know what that felt like for Katniss, that her actions had led to the death of people she'd grown up with and her home.

"Sleep is overrated," Fleur tells Katniss. The victor from Twelve looks at her, "I mean who really needs sleep?"

"Everyone?" Katniss responds and Fleur smiles.

"Well now you've ruined my argument," Fleur says, "I was going to say that sleep is for the weak and you and I are better than everyone else, but I guess even we need sleep too." Katniss snorts and shakes her head at the words. Fleur smiles at the sight of Katniss's smile, "Is that a smile?"

"No," Katniss responds as she looks at Fleur, "I still don't think you're funny."

"Ouch," Fleur says, "You're killing me, Twelve."

"Katniss," the younger woman says softly. Fleur meets her gaze and nods her head.

"Katniss," Fleur speaks. The nickname she'd fondly given Katniss seemed to no longer achieve its teasing purpose.
