FLEUR AND KATNISS
Twenty-Five | The Life of a Victor
•••

THE MONTHS CAME AND WENT. SOON THE MONTHS TURNED INTO A YEAR. It had been a year since the war had ended. A year of Katniss and Fleur living their days peacefully in District Twelve. Green had begun to grow where the rest of Twelve once stood and people had begun to move back into the little district. It was no longer just Katniss, Fleur, and Haymitch, but rather a small town. With little shops and one school that only had about thirty children attending.

Fleur was an early riser. Katniss was not. Now that she had no reason to, she slept until about noon. Well, that was when Fleur let her. Today was one of the days where Fleur didn't feel inclined to rouse Katniss from her sleep. Instead, she lay on her side, watching as Katniss slept. There was a small smile on her lips as she listened to Katniss's soft snores.

Sometimes Katniss would wake in the middle of the night with nightmares, but those nights were few nowadays.

Life was just peaceful.

"Fleur?"

Fleur was startled as Katniss spoke her name. She reached out and waved her hand over Katniss's face to see if she was awake, but her eyes remained shut.

"Yes?" Fleur asks.

"We should go to One."

Fleur is taken aback by the suggestion, "One?"

"Mhm," Katniss says, "It's your home."

Fleur moves closer to Katniss's face, "Are you even awake?"

Katniss's eyes flutter open and stare back into Fleur's own, making her jump back and Katniss laughs at Fleur's reaction.

"You know normal people wake up by opening their eyes and saying good morning," Fleur states.

"Good morning," Katniss says.

Fleur rolls her eyes, "Too late now."

Katniss smiles as she turns fully on her side and looks up at Fleur, who is sitting up in the bed and leaning against the headboard.

"We should go to One," Katniss says.

"There's nothing in One," Fleur responds, "My family is dead and there's nothing that I'm particularly fond of there."

"Well, I think it's unfair," Katniss says, "You've seen where I've grown up and yet I have no idea about where you grew up. You know when we first got to Thirteen you said you wanted to show me the pink flowers that grew by your house."

Fleur scoffs, "I said no such thing."

"You did," Katniss responds, "And so now we have to go to One."

Fleur sighs, "Would taking you to One make you happy?"

Katniss nods her head and Fleur gives in, "Fine."

Katniss smiles, "Fine?"

"I said fine, didn't I," Fleur says dismissively. Katniss laughs as she throws her arms around Fleur and pulls her in for an embrace. Fleur laughs as Katniss practically lays on top of her. She tries to shove Katniss off, but her grip is too tight.

"Get off," Fleur says through her laughs.

"No," Katniss responds as she lays her head on Fleur's chest, listening to the steady beat of her heart. Fleur brings her arms around Katniss and gently rubs her back as they melt into an intimate embrace.

"When do you want to go?" Fleur asks, her fingers tracing shapes over Katniss's spine.

"Soon," Katniss says, "I was thinking we could visit everyone?"
