Ophidian's Genesis (UNDER REVISION)

CHAPTER 2

Her own heart's desperate thump was the only sound to break the absolute quiet of her room. The worst-case possibilities raced through Jessica's head as she perched on the side of her bed. Seline was where? Were Seline's parents able to find anything? How would Mike respond? What would everyone say? The uncertainty was a persistent source of agony, a persistent anxiety that would not leave her. She had a nagging suspicion that something horrible had occurred to her friend.

Which was how she braced the day's agenda.

Jessica went to school and was immediately greeted by the principal. She was sent to the office with her parents. Mike was there with his shit-eating grin and his parents. Jessica's ears started to ring as she felt anger seeing his face. All of it moved slowly and it felt hot for her.

As soon as she had sat down, the principal and vice principal started explaining to the parents what had happened. Her auburn hair was being caressed by her mother as the principal spoke about the incidents the day before. Jessica didn't listen. She still worries about her friend.

Not a text nor a call from her yesterday, where could she have gone? She wondered while her head was down, staring at the floor. "Miss Amirson!" The principal called for her attention, "What do you have to say for yourself?" The vice principal asked.

Pensive, Jessica looked at Mike and his parents. Mike's parents had these piercing brown eyes that made Jessica feel weird. "Miss Amirson seems to take this lightly, Principal Stevens. Might I suggest suspension?" Mike's dad suggested. Jessica felt annoyed but was too preoccupied with suspense she didn't feel it enough to rebut.

"Now, now, Mister Leandor, let the child speak. I think it is only fair." Principal Stevens says, "Fair? She hit my baby boy with a bag and he's got a sore cheek because of it! His handsome and kissable face! Not to mention she's bullying him!" Missus Leandor almost cries. 'Oh great, his mom's got emotional incest over him.' Jessica thought to herself, trying not to make face over her disgust.

Before the principal could even say another word, "Um..." She started, "I apologize... for my wrongdoings. I shouldn't have done what I did yesterday." She uttered, Jessica only had the gut to say that so his parents would shut up. Mike's parents seem to be okay with the apology. The principal seemed content with what she said, she turned to Mike and asked, "And how about you, Mister Leandor?" Mike gave out his apology, although Jessica knew his also was fake.

    The principal would give Jessica another chance without suspension since this was the first time she'd ever crossed a line. After what was all said and done Jessica blurted,

"Where's Seline?" She looked at Mike. Everyone in the room was silent.

"What happened to her?" Jessica asked again. Mike grinned before answering, "We lost her during the chase yesterday. Don't know where she went." Appearing content with himself. "I couldn't contact her..." Jessica murmured. No one heard.

The Principal dismisses them but before Jessica could ever leave, Mike's dad grabs her arm and looks at her with an angry stare. It was almost as if he was saying "back-off or else". Jessica furrowed her brows in annoyance and quickly shifted her arm away from his grasp.

The last thing she heard from that darned office was Seline's parents don't know where she went either. Jessica feared this would happen. She sat through all her classes, deep in thought, trying to solve where her friend went. She prayed that Seline was okay. She prayed with whichever God she thought could help.

Before she even knew it, it was lunchtime. She entered the cafeteria, looking around for nothing, but she spotted Mike. With a glint in his eye, he gestured to her to follow. His team was behind her and she obliged. Mike led her to the two's usual spot. Then, Mike put something on the table. A bunch of Polaroid pictures turned down.
